The Milwaukee Brewers secured their second consecutive series win on Saturday afternoon thanks to a 4-1 victory over the Washington Nationals. Another stellar performance from left-hander Kyle Harrison, who tossed six innings and allowed just one run, paved the way for the Brewers in the nation's capital.

However, despite being winners of five of their last six games, the Brewers have endured a pair of injury scares that cut short the starts of two of their key starting pitchers. During Thursday's series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Brandon Woodruff showed a concerning dip in velocity and was pulled from the game after just four outs. Woody has since been placed on the 15-day IL with right shoulder inflammation, but imaging showed no significant damage to the right-hander's surgically repaired shoulder.

Then, on Friday night, Jacob Misiorowski exited his start with a right hamstring cramp. Miz was cruising through his outing against the Nationals, and left the game with a no-hitter still intact. While leaving the game in the midst of a no-hit bid due to a cramp is certainly a frustrating scenario, the silver lining is that the Brewers remain optimistic Miz will be able to make his next start.

While the Brewers effectively weathered this duo of injury scares, the starting rotation has nevertheless been shaken up. Paired with an update on a soon-to-be-returning star outfielder, here are three storylines ahead of the Brewers' attempt to sweep the Nationals on Sunday afternoon.

Logan Henderson promoted from Triple-A to start Sunday's series finale against the Nationals

With Woodruff now on the IL, the Brewers needed to fill his spot in the rotation, and thankfully they have a group of young, MLB-ready arms in Triple-A waiting for their next big-league opportunity. Ahead of Sunday's matinee, the Brewers have promoted one of those arms, right-hander Logan Henderson, to the big-league roster to make his first start of the 2026 season.

Henderson debuted for the Brewers last year, and despite posting an impressive 1.78 ERA, he was limited to just five starts due to Milwaukee's crowded rotation picture. Elbow soreness in Spring Training led to a slow start for Henderson in 2026 and secured his spot in Triple-A to begin the campaign.

The 24-year-old Henderson has been slowly ramping up to a starter's workload, a process that included one two-inning relief appearance with the big-league club back on April 4. His most recent outing in Nashville was a five-inning, 67-pitch gem, in which he allowed just one earned run and struck out nine. His excellent 1.02 ERA in Triple-A this year should have Brewers fans excited to watch the talented Henderson on a big-league mound once again.

Jackson Chourio injuries foot during rehab assignment, status for upcoming series in St. Louis is uncertain

After landing on the injured list just hours before Opening Day due to a hairline fracture in his left hand, Jackson Chourio is nearing his return to the Brewers' roster. The 22-year-old phenom is currently on a rehab assignment with the Nashville Sounds and was expected to join the Brewers in St. Louis on Monday, May 4, for their series against the Cardinals.

However, on Saturday night, Chourio fouled a pitch off his left ankle and had to be removed from the game. Thankfully, as reported by Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the x-rays of Chourio's foot were negative, but that doesn't guarantee he will be ready to go for tomorrow's series opener in St. Louis.

Notably, Chourio is not in the Sounds' lineup for their game against the Norfolk Tides on Sunday afternoon. However, Andrew Vaughn, who is also on a rehab assignment in Triple-A, and is also expected to join the Brewers in St. Louis, isn't in the lineup either, so perhaps the plan was always for neither of them to play today's game for the Sounds. Stay tuned for more information on Chourio's status as it surfaces throughout the day.

Brewers shuffle starting rotation for upcoming series in St. Louis

Woodruff's next start was scheduled for Tuesday, May 5, against the Cardinals, so if Milwaukee was hoping to leave the rest of their rotation unchanged heading into their first series of the season against St. Louis, they would have simply slotted Henderson into that spot. However, the Brewers elected to throw Henderson in the series finale against the Nationals, which pushes Chad Patrick back to the opener against the Cardinals, and Brandon Sproat to Tuesday's game.

Henderson last pitched in Triple-A on Tuesday, April 26, so the move simply gives Patrick and Sproat an extra rest day before an important series against St. Louis, while not rushing Henderson's timeline.

Notably, the Brewers have yet to officially announce a starter for the series finale against the Cardinals on Wednesday, which is when Misiorowski's next turn in the rotation is set to arrive. As previously mentioned, the Brewers don't think there are any long-term concerns with their young flamethrower's hamstring cramp, but they are waiting to ensure everything is okay before naming him the starter for Wednesday's matinee in St. Louis.
