Every single MLB team deals with injuries during the season. Pitchers in particular have been particularly prone to getting hurt in recent years, but the rigors of a 162 season claim players all the time and it has become an accepted part of the game. However, the Milwaukee Brewers sure felt particularly snakebitten with injuries last season.

Brandon Woodruff's recovery was a known problem going in, but the Brewers lost Christian Yelich, Wade Miley, Garrett Mitchell, Sal Frelick, Trevor Megill, Blake Perkins, and Robert Gasser among others to various ailments. Some of those injuries were clearly flukes that couldn't have been prevented, but keeping their players on the field as well as getting hurt guys back quickly and effectively should at least be more of a consideration heading into 2025.

It looks like Milwaukee agrees as the team announced an overhaul of their athletic training staff going into next season.

Brewers training staff overhaul could pay big dividends for Milwaukee's chances next season

Now, it is important to not oversell this as many fans think training staffs have more of an impact than they actually do. There isn't a silver bullet to keeping guys well-conditioned and healthy all season and while guys like Brad Epstein and Lee Meyers have experience in the big leagues doing the job, they aren't going to be able to work miracles (probably).

However, having an experienced and high functioning training staff is an advantage and one the Brewers certainly could use heading into the 2025 season. Woodruff should be returning and will need to be monitored closely upon his return. Aaron Ashby could be a huge part of the team's plans assuming he is used correctly as he continues to adjust after his own shoulder surgery and we know that Yelich's back will need to be nursed going forward.

While the medical staff is a big part in all of this, the Brewers' training staff is a big part of executing on recovery plans and just physical maintenance. Again, the baseball season is long and getting guys through it is half the battle with each player having their own individual challenges they face. One hopes that Milwaukee found the right group to protect against injuries playing too large a role next season.
