Pat Murphy spent several years coaching in the minor leagues as well as the college ranks. Then he spent nine years as the Milwaukee Brewers bench coach before rising to the top job in 2024. Now that his first season at the helm is complete, he's shaking up his assistant coaching staff, including bringing in another longtime minor league coach.
The Brewers announced on Monday that they have promoted Al LeBoeuf to Lead Hitting Coach. LeBeouf has been the hitting coach for the Brewers Triple-A affiliate for the last six seasons and has been a coach in the Brewers organization for 15 years. However, this is his first time being on the major league coaching staff.
Brewers change things up with their 2025 coaching staff
“In his 15 seasons in the organization, Al has played a key role in the development of many of the young hitters you see on the Major League team today,” said Arnold in a statement released by the Brewers. “His familiarity and relationships with all these players will be a great resource for us. Al has had a long journey to get here and we are very excited for him.”
Also joining the major league coaching staff is Eric Theisen, who was most recently the Brewers assistant minor league hitting coordinator. Theisen has been considered a rising star in the coaching ranks. He's been in the organization the last four years, starting as the hitting coach in Low-A Carolina before being quickly promoted to his role of assistant hitting coordinator.
Connor Dawson, who has been on the big league staff the last three years will remain on staff. However, Ozzie Timmons, who has also been in Milwaukee the last three seasons has been let go and will not return in 2025.
The Brewers offense enjoyed a resurgence in 2024. Milwaukee was top 10 in MLB in batting average, OBP, OPS, runs scored, and walks. Willy Adames had a career year and Christian Yelich was back to his MVP form before his season ended prematurely due to back surgery.
Milwaukee's youth movement will continue in 2025 and by promoting hitting coaches that have been working with these prospects the last few years, there will be a comfort and familiarity between the coaches and players that should lead to further success.
As for the rest of the assistant coaches, contracts are up at the end of the month. There could be more changes still to come, but that remains to be seen.
