One constant for the Milwaukee Brewers organization throughout the turmoil of the 2025 season has been the relentlessness of their Double-A affiliate's offense. The Biloxi Shuckers, who are in their 10th season as a franchise, all of which they have spent as the Brewers' Double-A squad, are off to one of the best starts in all of minor league baseball, thanks in large part to the power that their offense has displayed. However, among the record-setting home run numbers and breakout season from slugging third base prospect Brock Wilken is a unique leadoff hitter who is breaking records of his own: Luke Adams.
Adams is a former 12th round pick taken out of high school by the Brewers in the 2022 MLB Draft. After 11 games in rookie ball during the latter half of the 2022 summer, Adams spent one full season in Low-A in 2023 and a season with the High-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in 2024. A season ago, he hit a walkoff single that sent the Timber Rattlers to the Midwest League Championship with a run scored by fellow top prospect Cooper Pratt from second base.
This season, he's once again playing alongside Pratt down in Biloxi, and with Wilken joining them on the dirt, the Shuckers have one of the best infields in the minor leagues. This season, Adams has posted an interesting slash line of .245/.429/.495 with 11 HR and 41 walks in 56 games. Additionally, both last season and this year, Adams has been a hit-by-pitch (HBP) machine. He led the Southern League with 40 HBP a season ago and already has 19 this year. The combination of Adams' ability to draw a walk and the ridiculous amount of HBP that he bears has resulted in an impressive streak that has put Adams' name in the Shuckers' record books.
Luke Adams sets new Biloxi Shuckers' franchise record with 36-game on-base streak
The last time that Luke Adams played in a game and didn't reach base was on April 27. More than a month has gone by without Adams failing to reach base at least once. In yesterday's matchup with the Chattanooga Lookouts, Adams extended his streak to 36 games, which passed Tyler Black's previous mark for most consecutive games reaching base, which he set in 2023. However, Adams didn't just break Black's record; he did so with a grand slam that brought the Shuckers within two runs after an early 6-0 deficit.
Adams adds to the already crowded group of first-base prospects that the Brewers currently have in their farm system. With Ernesto Martinez Jr. and Black in Triple-A, Mike Boeve and Adams in Double-A, Blake Burke in High-A, and Eric Bitonti in Low-A, the Brewers are absolutely loaded at first base in the minor leagues. In fact, each of the names mentioned above is on the Brewers Top-30 prospect list, curated by MLB Pipeline.
It's an exciting time to be a Brewers fan, and after years of turnover at the cold corner, they might finally have a long-term solution at first base. With so many different options, it will be difficult to balance the developments of all their first base prospects, but if they do so effectively, first base could quickly turn from a position of uncertainty to a position of strength.
