Brewers reach 100 wins for first time in franchise history thanks to key roster strength

The Milwaukee Brewers have a 100-win season. With a victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday night, the 2026 Brew Crew improved to 100-59 on the 2026 season, reaching an unbelievable milestone that hadn't been accomplished in the first 57 seasons of the franchise's history.

It took a pair of wins over the Philadelphia Phillies, who still have plenty to play for, to achieve 100 wins before their final series of the regular season. With the Brewers fully in postseason preparation mode, made clear by a number of roster and in-game decisions, Murphy's team displayed their impressive depth in their late-September series victory over the Phillies. Said roster depth will be key in the postseason.

The Brewers entered Thursday night's series finale against the Phillies with a first-round bye, and therefore a spot in the NLDS, already secured. They didn't have nearly as much to play for as Philadelphia, who is fighting to secure home-field advantage in the Wild Card Series. As a result, Murphy turned to Shane Drohan, who is expected to be a reliever in October, for a short start, didn't include Christian Yelich or Jackson Chourio in the starting lineup, and opted to have William Contreras DH during the series finale on Thursday night. Murphy didn't use Abner Uribe or Trevor Megill and kept Antonio Senzatela in for a save in the ninth inning, and yet, even with their postseason preparation fully underway, the Brewers knocked off the mighty Phillies, who have not officially clinched a spot in the postseason just yet.

In other words, the Brewers won their 100th game of the season on Thursday night due to their impressive roster depth. Murphy's squad proved that they can defeat a postseason team like the Phillies without using one of their top starters, without starting Chourio or Yelich, and without turning to their elite high-leverage duo at the end of the ballgame.

That type of roster depth bodes well for Milwaukee's chances in October. A deep postseason run, like the one the Brewers are hoping to put together, requires contributions throughout the roster. Whether it be a pinch-hit appearance, escaping a jam in the middle innings, or serving as a defensive replacement late in the game, the 26 Brewers that Milwaukee elects to include on their postseason roster will each have their role. It's therefore encouraging to see so many of them contribute to the Brewers' late-season series win over the Phillies, which led to 100 wins.

The Brewers have three games left to improve their record-breaking regular season record even further. Expect a similar strategy, in which Murphy relies on his depth to give necessary rest to each of his players, in the Brewers' upcoming weekend series against the St. Louis Cardinals. That said, regardless of how the final series plays out, the 2026 Brewers officially have a 100-win season to their name -- a truly incredible accomplishment.
