Just yesterday, I wrote about the promise that the Milwaukee Brewers' 2025 second-round draft pick, Frank Cairone, holds as he approaches his professional debut. Cairone, who celebrated his 18th birthday last September, was named MLB Pipeline's top breakout candidate among Brewers prospects heading into the 2026 season. However, today, baseball couldn't matter less.
As announced by the Brewers on Saturday night, and relayed to fans by both MLB.com's Adam McCalvy and Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Cairone was involved in a serious car accident on Friday night in his home state of New Jersey.
According to a report from McCalvy, which detailed the team's response to the scary situation, “Frank is currently being cared for at a hospital in New Jersey with the support of his family." The long-time Brewers insider also revealed that the team will offer more updates on the situation as it continues to develop.

After being selected by the Brewers in the 2025 MLB Draft in early July, the team elected not to have Cairone make his professional debut until the 2026 season, following a similar path to the one they took with 2025 second-round pick Bryce Meccage, who also happened to be a prep pitcher out of New Jersey.
As previously noted, more updates to this awful news are expected to surface in the coming days, but for now Brewers fans should keep Cairone, his family, and his community in their thoughts and prayers as the situation continues to develop.
