It's been two years since right-hander Bryse Wilson has donned a Milwaukee Brewers jersey. The now-28-year-old multi-inning reliever has spent time with the Chicago White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, and Chicago Cubs in the interim. However, now, as reported by FanSided's own Robert Murray, Wilson is rejoining the Brewers' organization, after having been designated for assignment by the Cubs on Independence Day.

It's not yet clear whether the deal is a minor or major league contract, but given Wilson's recent performance and the fact that Milwaukee currently has a full 40-man roster, it feels more likely that it's a minor league pact.

Despite now having six different jerseys hanging on his wall, Wilson's best stint in the majors remains his two years that he spent with the Brew Crew. A fourth-round pick of the Atlanta Braves back in 2016, Wilson made his major league debut with the NL East club in 2018. After three seasons of bouncing back and forth between Atlanta's MLB roster and their Triple-A squad, Wilson was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates at the 2021 trade deadline in a deal that sent reliever Richard Rodriguez to the Braves.

Just a year and a half later, during the 2022-23 offseason, Wilson was designated for assignment by the Pirates and subsequently traded to the Brewers for cash. As is so often the case, Wilson unlocked a new level in Milwaukee. During the 2023 campaign, the right-hander posted a 2.58 ERA -- by far the lowest season-long mark in his career -- in 53 appearances out of the Brewers' bullpen. Wilson took a small step back the following season, but still posted a respectable 4.04 ERA in 34 games, nine of which came as a starting pitcher.

After Wilson and the Brewers parted ways at the end of the 2024 campaign, the right-hander signed a one-year deal with the White Sox for the 2025 campaign, where he was hoping a prolonged opportunity in a big-league rotation would present itself. Said opportunity did not arise, as Wilson made just five starts for the major league club and finished the season with a rather lackluster 6.65 ERA in 47.1 innings.

As a result, Wilson was only able to secure a minor league deal this past offseason, which came from the Phillies. After making 11 starts for the Phillies' Triple-A squad during the first two months of the season, Philadelphia recalled Wilson for one appearance out of their bullpen on June 18 before designating him for assignment. The injury-riddled Cubs claimed him off waivers and gave him two long relief outings in their bullpen, one of which was a scoreless 4.1-inning appearance, before they too designated him for assignment.

Wilson cleared waivers, rejected his outright assignment to Triple-A from the Cubs, and has now elected to re-sign with the organization in which he found his most success. It's unclear what Wilson's role will be in the Brewers' organization, especially considering it's not yet known whether or not he has agreed to a major league contract, but expect him to resume his role as a multi-inning, low-leverage relief arm if he does end up cracking the Brewers' major league roster.
