Since the start of May, the Milwaukee Brewers have won seven of the eight games that their flame-throwing ace Jacob Misiorowski has started. The lone Miz start that the Brewers didn't win since the beginning of May was a late-inning loss to the San Diego Padres in which Miz tossed seven scoreless frames with 10 strikeouts.
During his last eight starts, Misiorowski has an unbelievable 0.17 ERA, which, according to MLB statistician Sarah Langs, is the lowest ERA in an eight-game stretch since earned runs became an official stat back in 1913. He has a ridiculous 80 strikeouts during the span and has only allowed one extra-base hit. ONE.
On Friday night, Miz produced what was perhaps the most dominant start by a Brewers' pitcher in franchise history. On the one-year anniversary of his MLB debut, Miz threw a complete game shutout with an incredible 15 strikeouts while facing the minimum against a star-studded Philadelphia Phillies lineup. Miz allowed just one baserunner -- a single off the bat of Kyle Schwarber -- which was quickly wiped out by a ground-ball double play.
Given Misiorowski's dominance, Brewers fans are naturally wondering when Milwaukee's ace will take the bump once again, knowing that any time he pitches, more history could be made. However, there are several factors impacting Miz's schedule, including the fact that Milwaukee's starting rotation is currently being shuffled amid a string of injuries and the fact that Misiorowski is coming off his longest start ever in terms of innings pitched. Earlier today, the Brewers revealed how they will handle Miz's timeline moving forward.
Jacob Misiorowski likely to start Friday's series opener in Atlanta after next start gets pushed back
After starting Friday night's series opener against the Phillies, regular rest would have had Miz starting Thursday's series finale against the Cleveland Guardians. In fact, with the Brewers' off-day on Monday, Miz would be throwing on five days' rest, rather than the regular four, if he were to take the ball this upcoming Thursday.
However, earlier today, the Brewers announced their probables for this week's series against Cleveland, and Miz's name was not included among the three starting pitchers. Rather, the Brewers will turn to Robert Gasser, Brandon Sproat, and Shane Drohan for their three games against the AL Central leaders this week. Drohan, who started Saturday night's game against the Phillies, but threw just 78 pitches, will be pitching on four days' rest.
While the Brewers haven't yet confirmed that Misiorowski will start Friday, the assumption is that Milwaukee's ace will get the ball in the series opener against the Braves, who currently hold the best record in all of MLB. Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that the change to Miz's schedule was "pre-planned" and there is nothing for Brewers fans to be concerned about in regard to his health.
The Brewers are flipping Shane Drohan and Jacob Misiorowski in the rotation for next week, bumping Miz back a day. No concern, Matt Arnold said. Misiorowski’s schedule was pre-planned and he will likely be the probable starter Friday in Atlanta.

Misiorowski threw a career-high 129.1 innings pitched last year between his time spent in Triple-A and MLB. However, Miz is already at 87 innings through his first 14 starts this season. Seeing as the MLB season has not yet reached the halfway point, it's likely Miz surpasses the 129.1 benchmark this season. The Brewers obviously want Misiorowski to be effective throughout the second half of the season and into the postseason, so any opportunity to give him an extra day off should certainly be taken. This opportunity just so happens to allow the Brewers to line Misiorowski up with the NL-leading Braves, making it an even easier decision for Milwaukee.
