The wind chill in Wisconsin yesterday certainly proved one thing: winter is in full swing in the Midwest. Paired with a tragic end to the Green Bay Packers' 2025 season and a disappointing year for the Milwaukee Bucks, Wisconsin sports fans need something to look forward to as the weather continues to worsen.

Luckily, the Milwaukee Brewers have their backs. What has been a very quiet offseason for the Brew Crew -- since Brandon Woodruff accepted the qualifying offer and the front office dealt Nick Mears and Isaac Collins to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for Ángel Zerpa -- is quickly coming to a close. Spring Training is just around the corner.

MLB gave baseball fans a mid-January boost yesterday as they revealed the date when each team's pitchers and catchers will report to Spring Training and when their first full-team workouts will occur. Though spring might seem like a distant dream for Wisconsinites right now, Spring Training is not that far away.

Brewers' pitchers and catchers report to 2026 Spring Training on February 12, first full squad workout on February 17

Less than one month remains before the Brewers' pitchers and catchers will head down to Maryvale and the American Family Fields of Phoenix. In fact, it's exactly four weeks from today that the Brewers' talented group of arms will travel to Arizona to kick off the 2026 campaign.

However, the Brewers still have plenty to figure out before that date arrives. If the team is going to trade ace Freddy Peralta prior to the 2026 season, it's practically a guarantee that the blockbuster deal will occur before February 12. Milwaukee traded Corbin Burnes to the Baltimore Orioles on February 1 of 2024, more than a week before he was set to report to Spring Training with the Brewers, and last year they traded Devin Williams in mid-December, well before the pitchers and catchers' report date. It's still no certainty that the Brewers move Peralta this winter, but the momentum surely seems to have picked up in recent weeks, and a trade is starting to feel very likely; several MLB insiders have noted in recent days that they believe Milwaukee will move on from Peralta before the end of the offseason.

On the catching side of things, it's very likely that the Brewers make an addition, most likely in the form of a minor league deal with an invite to Spring Training, before February 12. Currently, the Brewers have just two catchers on their 40-man roster in William Contreras and Jeferson Quero, but they have also extended an invitation to big league camp to minor leaguer Darrien Miller (who is not related to former Brewer and Wisconsin native Damien Miller despite having nearly the same name). Whether or not the Brewers believe Quero is ready to be Contreras' backup in 2026 will determine the type of catcher that they bring in sometime in the next few weeks.

More than anything, it's simply reassuring to know that baseball season is not as far away as the weather in Wisconsin currently suggests. Before you know it, Aaron Ashby will be throwing bullpens down in Arizona and just several short weeks later, Opening Day will be upon us. Start the countdown now.
