Despite some high profile losses this offseason, the Milwaukee Brewers still seem like to be in a good spot heading into the 2025 season. The lineup still has William Contreras, Jackson Chourio, and Christian Yelich along with a number of talented young guys and the bullpen looks strong despite Milwaukee trading Devin Williams away earlier in the offseason. The rotation, however, is a bit of a concern.

Even assuming a world where Brandon Woodruff returns relatively quickly and pitches well, the Brewers starting staff leaves a lot to be desired. Freddy Peralta is very good and Nestor Cortes could be productive, but the depth drops off a good bit after that and the team did nothing except acquire Cortes to mitigate the problem.

Still, we aren't in the season yet and there are free agents still available that could help the cause. According to MLB insider Hector Gomez who admittedly has been a bit hit and miss with rumors this offseason, it appears as though the Brewers are interested in Jose Quintana who might be a perfect fit for what Milwaukee needs.

Brewers need to follow-through and land Jose Quintana before it is too late

At 36 years old and with almost 2,000 big league innings on his arm, Quintana's best days are likely behind him. However, he had a pretty good season with the Mets last season with a 3.75 ERA in 31 starts and 170.1 innings and the guys just knows how to pitch. At this stage in his career, Quintana probably has to settle for one year deals the rest of the way and it is honestly a bit surprising that no one has snatched him up yet.

For the Brewers, Quintana might be the best option available for them. It is painfully obvious that Milwaukee is not going to be throwing money around anytime soon, but Quintana is a guy that can cover innings reasonably well and shouldn't cost all that much to sign.

Unfortunately, Quintana's profile is attractive to a lot of different teams and there appears to be a strong push in the market to land him. The Pirates apparently made an offer that was turned down and the Braves, Mets, Rangers, and Padres have also apparently been involved in his market as well to some degree. Other than the Pirates (lol), all the other bidders for Quintana appear to be contenders looking to add the same sort of pitching depth that Milwaukee could really, really use right now.
