The Milwaukee Brewers have quietly built one of the most consistently successful organizations in Major League Baseball, officially clinching a spot in the playoffs for their seventh time in the last eight seasons yesterday. Much of that success can be traced back to the stability and cohesion of their front office.

Over the years, retaining familiar faces and promoting from within has been the Brewers’ strategy when it comes to keeping key personnel in place. This is true across scouting, player development, analytics, coaching, and leadership. By doing so, the organization has maintained a strong internal alignment that allows all departments to operate cohesively and efficiently, which is why they haven’t missed a beat following David Stearns’ departure to New York.

This tight-knit group, that uses a collaborative approach, has allowed Milwaukee to consistently identify undervalued talent, develop players from within, and make calculated decisions that keep the team competitive year after year, even without a top-tier payroll, household names, and continually being written off at the start of each season.

With the end of the 2025 MLB regular season nearing, openings in other organizations’ front offices are becoming clear, with more surely to be announced later. So far, the Washington Nationals need a new GM, the Baltimore Orioles are looking to add a second-in-command underneath Mike Elias, and similarly in Boston, Craig Breslow is looking for an assistant.

While not directly linked to any of these openings, one MLB Insider did suggest that one of the Brewers’ key executives should be in contention to land a promotion.

MLB Insider hints that Milwaukee Brewers GM Assistant Matt Kleine should garner interest in front office openings

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com has been reporting on front office openings, interviews, and people in contention for each job. Brewers GM Assistant Matt Keline was not officially tied to Washington, Baltimore, or Boston, but Feinsand strongly suggested that he is a name to watch.

Kleine was promoted to GM Assistant in 2023 alongside Karl Mueller and Will Hudgins. He has been with Milwaukee since 2007, initially hired as a scout, but since 2011 he has had various titles including baseball operations assistant, coordinator of advance scouting and baseball contracts, manager of baseball operations, and director of baseball operations.

As a current assistant general manager, the natural next steps in the career ladder for Kleine would be roles such as general manager, assistant to the president of baseball operations, or even president of baseball operations, although other roles may exist depending on the structure of the organization and the opportunities available.

If Kleine ends up leaving the Brewers, it would close a long and meaningful chapter for both him and the organization. Since joining the club in 2007, he’s grown alongside a franchise that evolved from rebuilding to ending its playoff drought, reaching the NLCS twice, and now enjoying a run of sustained success. His experience across all those phases makes him a well-rounded and appealing hire for any front office role.
