Brice Turang only has one division rival roadblock standing in the way of his first Silver Slugger

Despite already having a Platinum Glove to his name, Milwaukee Brewers' second baseman Brice Turang has narrowly missed out on a number of individual accolades throughout his four-year MLB career. Turang has been snubbed from the All-Star Game in each of the last three years and suffered a narrow defeat to Arizona Diamondbacks' second baseman Ketel Marte in last year's Silver Slugger race. Turang, despite being among the best infielders in baseball, has very little hardware to show for it, but that could change this year.

Turang is once again in the running for the NL's Gold Glove Award at the second base position. MLB.com recently predicted that St. Louis Cardinals' rookie JJ Whetherholt will take home the award this year, but Turang far outperforms Whetherholt when it comes to Defensive Runs Saved, the statistic that has historically been prioritized in Gold Glove voting.

However, Whetherholt isn't the only NL Central rival that Turang is battling with for a major individual award this year. Turang is once again expected to be a finalist for the NL Silver Slugger Award at second base, just as he was last year. As previously mentioned, Turang ultimately lost the award to Marte, but this year the Brewers' second baseman has outperformed the D-Backs' slugger in batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. Instead of Marte, Turang's biggest competition for the first silver bat of his career is Pittsburgh Pirates' second baseman Brandon Lowe.

As the Brewers and Pirates face off in a mid-September three-game series at PNC Park, Turang and Lowe are locked in a tight race for the NL Silver Slugger Award at second base. Barring a late-season collapse from either second baseman, Turang and Lowe should be the two favorites for the award when the regular season comes to a close next weekend.

However, while both Turang and Lowe have seemingly locked up a spot among the Silver Slugger finalists in the National League, who will ultimately take home the award remains to be decided. The two have similarly impressive offensive outputs in 2026, but the way they've gone about achieving that success looks rather different. Lowe leads Turang when it comes to home runs and slugging percentage, but the Brewers' second baseman is better in practically every other offensive category. Despite having 10 fewer homers than Lowe, Turang has seven more RBI, and, boosted by his 26 more walks, a better OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) as well. Additionally, while both second basemen have struck out more than they were hoping to this year, Lowe's strikeout rate is among the worst in baseball, whereas Turang's is far more manageable. Only seven players in all of baseball have struck out more times than Lowe this year.

If Turang can pop a few more homers before the end of the season and close the power gap that exists between him and Lowe, the Brewers' second baseman should run away with the Silver Slugger Award this year. Even if he doesn't close said gap, Turang has a strong argument for being the better hitter of the two this year. Regardless, it's bound to be a close race between the two NL Central rivals.
