Of all the things that could go right or wrong for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2025, the one that could have the biggest swing in the team's fortunes is Christian Yelich. When Yelich is healthy, he has proven to be one of the most dangerous hitters in baseball and very capable of making another run in the MVP race.

Unfortunately, Yelich's health the last few years has been anything but a sure thing. A fluke knee injury prematurely ended his 2019 season and back issues have caused him problems for a few years now. The issues with Yelich's back got so concerning that he opted to have surgery last August to fix the problem.

Heading into the 2025 season, it has been decidedly unclear as to what to expect from Yelich especially early in camp. The updates on Yelich's recovery have been positive, but lack detail as to how his recovery is lining up with the start of the regular season. Fortunately, Yelich spoke to the media on Saturday and gave everyone some great news.

Christian Yelich doesn't see any reason why he wouldn't be in the Brewers' lineup on Opening Day

It would not have been crazy to have Yelich be limited in camp so he could ease into things even if it meant he wouldn't be ready for Opening Day. Back surgeries are something you don't mess around with and at Yelich's age, there are good reasons to limit his activity early so that he can stay fresh for the end of the season push.

However, Yelich was unequivocal when he said that he was feeling really good and don't see any reason to think that he wouldn't be in there on Opening Day. Yelich acknowledged the speculation that he might not be ready, but had no idea where that came from as he has had a pretty normal offseason ramp up. Yelich also said he may actually be ahead of where he usually is because of all the baseball activity he had to do during his rehab.

This is obviously tremendous news for Milwaukee as a healthy Yelich is as good as any player in baseball. It wouldn't have been a huge deal if he started the season a little late given his recovery, but that the Brewers should be at full strength on the position player side assuming nothing tragic happens in spring training from day one of the season.
