Cooper Pratt nears Ryan Braun's Brewers rookie record after strong showing against Reds

After splitting a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs, the Milwaukee Brewers got off to a strong start in the next leg of a grueling 15-game stretch against National League Central opponents. Milwaukee defeated the Cincinnati Reds 10-7 in a wild, high-scoring affair that started 50 minutes late due to weather, featured 32 total baserunners, and a season-high 373 pitches thrown. And, to cap off the night, fans were treated to a postgame concert from Ludacris, adding to what was a crazy night at Great American Ball Park.

Leading the charge for the Brewers in last night's contest were Cooper Pratt and Brice Turang. Pratt paced Milwaukee with four RBI, driving in a run with an early groundout before coming through with a clutch bases-clearing triple later in the game. The three-bagger proved to be a pivotal moment, putting the Brewers ahead 8-6 at the time.

On the other hand, Turang, who was dropped to sixth in the lineup due to a lengthy slump, delivered a three-hit performance and drove in as many runs. Hopefully, the breakout game is exactly what he needed to get things going again and start producing at the level he is capable of. If Turang can regain his form before the postseason, it would be a major boost for the Brewers.

As impressive as both performances were, Pratt’s night also extended his quietly impressive streak of consecutive games with an RBI to six, which began the day after he was benched by Pat Murphy. During that stretch, he is batting .350 with a .400 on-base percentage and a .600 slugging percentage while driving in 10 runs, which has him on the same list as some elite Brewers company.

In Brewers history, only one player has recorded a longer streak of consecutive games with an RBI than Pratt’s current six-game run, as seen in the graphic from Just Baseball's X account below. That record belongs to Ryan Braun, who drove in a run in seven straight games from June 16-26, 2007. During that stretch, Braun was on an absolute tear, slashing .500/.548/1.000 with 10 RBIs and seven extra-base hits.

Pratt still has work to do to match Braun’s franchise record, but his recent surge is great news for the Brewers' offense. If the young shortstop can keep this momentum going, combined with Joey Ortiz continuing to swing a hot bat, Milwaukee's production from the bottom of the order could end up being a major strength for them in the postseason.
