Spring training is officially fully underway! With the start of another season comes lots of players debuting with new teams. While the Milwaukee Brewers kept a large portion of their core intact this off-season, they did lose some key pieces. Here is how those they lost are performing early on.
Checking in on 8 Milwaukee Brewers players who were lost this off-season
LHP Hoby Milner
Milner, a 34 year old southpaw, signed a MLB deal with his hometown Texas Rangers. He is on a one year, $2.5 million deal. His first and only outing this spring was a rough one as he threw 27 pitches, recorded just two outs, gave up four hits including one home run, and was tagged with three earned runs.
RHP Bryse Wilson
The Chicago White Sox signed Wilson to a MLB deal this off-season. This spring he has made one appearance in which he tossed two scoreless innings.
RHP Colin Rea
Rea reunited with manager Craig Counsell this winter and is in line to serve as a back end starter to begin the year. His spring has gotten off to a good start as through 4.2 innings he has allowed just one earned run. Most recently he tossed three scoreless innings against the Guardians.
RHP Joe Ross
After a successful return to the big leagues with the Brewers last year, Ross signed with the Philadelphia Phillies. He gave up two earned runs during his spring training debut, but tossed a scoreless frame more recently.
LHP Rob Zastryzny
Zastryzny spent the month of July on the Brewers big league roster last year and then held on to a 40-man roster spot. The Cubs ended up claiming him on waivers in November, but later DFA'd him. He latched on with the Yankees in February and has tossed two scoreless innings so far this spring.
C Gary Sanchez
Sanchez elected to return to the American League East this off-season, but this time with the Baltimore Orioles. So far the 32 year old veteran has logged 10 plate appearances with his new team, collecting two hits (both singles) and drawing one walk.
Two former Milwaukee Brewers have not yet made a spring appearance
The last two Brewers players lost this off-season have not yet made an appearance this spring. One is Devin Williams, who was traded to the Yankees and subsequently helped New York change their facial hair policy. Frankie Montas is the other, but he is shut down currently due to a lat injury after signing a deal with the Mets.
