Less than three weeks remain in Major League Baseball's 2026 regular season. The Milwaukee Brewers and all 29 other MLB teams will play their final regular season game on Sunday, September 27, before the postseason begins on Tuesday, September 29.

The Milwaukee Brewers are once again in a prime position to not only advance to the postseason, for what would be the eighth time in the last nine years, but also make some noise in October. Entering play on September 9, the Brew Crew has the best record in baseball, sits 1.5 games ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers for the top seed in the National League, and has a 4.5-game cushion over the Atlanta Braves for a first-round bye in the playoffs.

The Brewers certainly remain locked in on securing the best record in baseball, which would give them home-field advantage throughout the postseason, but they also have other motivations during the final weeks of the regular season. Ensuring their roster is well-rested and at full strength when the postseason rolls around is one of the Brewers' top priorities as well. That could mean limiting the workloads of their young pitchers and giving key offensive players days off when possible.

The worst-case scenario for the Brewers, and one they've experienced in several past seasons, would be losing a player to a late-season injury. While the Brewers will do everything in their power to ensure they don't lose a player to injury in the final weeks of the regular season, injuries can't always be avoided, and it therefore pays to have depth even as the season comes to a close. Thankfully, as made clear by the team's latest injury report, three Brewers relievers are set to return close to the end of the season, giving the Brew Crew necessary bullpen depth ahead of the postseason.

Grant Anderson, Bryse Wilson, and Rob Zastryzny are all expected to return from injuries before the end of September

According to the Brewers' latest injury report, Grant Anderson is expected to return from his biceps tendinopathy in mid- to late-September. Bryse Wilson, who was diagnosed with lumbar facet irritation (lower back strain), is already throwing from 90 feet without issue and is also expected to return in mid- to late-September. Rob Zastryzny, meanwhile, who hasn't pitched a single inning this year due to a string of frustrating injuries, was sent on a rehab assignment today, September 9, and is also expected to be ready to go before the end of the month.

Anderson, Wilson, and Zastryzny are all certainly on the postseason roster bubble as things currently stand, but an injury to one of the Brewers' current active pitchers could quickly change that reality. Additionally, depending on Milwaukee's postseason opponent, they may elect to add another lefty, like Zastryzny, a low-slot righty, like Anderson, or a multi-inning arm like Wilson to their roster.

At the very least, having the trio of relievers available as depth options at the end of the season is reassuring for the Brew Crew. Additionally, it's certainly possible one of them is called up before the end of the month in an effort to give rest to other arms once the Brewers have secured their seed in the postseason. All in all, whether or not Anderson, Wilson, and Zastryzny are included on the postseason roster, their availability down the stretch could prove to be important.
