The MLB Draft doesn't get the same love as the amateur drafts of other professional sports leagues. It can be hard to follow, between the wide net of high school and college prospects, and the fact that most players don't make an immediate impact on the major league club has previously left many fans uninterested in the past.

However, the draft is shorter now, and college baseball has been thrust back into the limelight in part by having college teams featured in MLB The Show video game series, which has revamped interest in the draft. Suffice to say, interest in baseball is growing, not just at the MLB level, but also in the minor leagues, independent leagues, and the college game, and as a result, the MLB Draft now carries more weight.

Given the Milwaukee Brewers' notoriety for developing young talent, and the recent growing importance of the organization's minor league system, interest in the draft has grown for fans of the Brew Crew, who know that having a strong farm system often indicates future success. Additionally, 2025 first-round draft pick Andrew Fischer's appearance in the 2026 World Baseball Classic further increased the hype around the Brewers' draft selections.

Milwaukee has a number of players on its current roster that have shot up the ranks after being drafted by the organization. Brice Turang, Jacob Misiorowski, Aaron Ashby, Brandon Woodruff, Garrett Mitchell, Sal Frelick, and David Hamilton were all drafted by the Brewers and now play important roles on the big-league club.

With the 2026 draft fast approaching, one mock draft has a player being selected by Milwaukee, that honestly makes way too much sense for the Brewers and their fans to ignore.

Georgia's Daniel Jackson is the perfect first-round draft target for the Milwaukee Brewers

In Keith Law's MLB Mock Draft 2.0 on The Athletic, the Milwaukee Brewers are slated to take Daniel Jackson with the 25th pick in the 2026 MLB Draft. Jackson is a 6'2" right-handed catcher and outfielder for the Georgia Bulldogs.

Primarily a catcher, Jackson is currently riding a 16-game hitting streak, helping lead the Georgia Bulldogs to the College World Series. Not only is he red-hot, but he is an incredibly decorated player. In 2026, Jackson was named the SEC Player of the Year, SEC Tournament MVP, First Team All-American, and was named a finalist for the 2026 Golden Spikes Award on Wednesday.

Of course, the accolades are fun talking points, but the numbers speak for themselves. So far, Jackson has hit for a .396 batting average, belting 31 home runs with 86 RBI, while also swiping 26 stolen bases. He has more season yet to play, as the Bulldogs are back in action tonight against the University of Texas.

Law notes that Jackson's tools are incredibly similar to two recent Brewers draft picks, Blake Burke and Andrew Fischer. Burke has shot through the Brewers farm system and is currently slashing .248/.340/.500 with 13 home runs for Double-A Biloxi. Fischer, meanwhile, is on an absolute tear for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in High-A, with a .286/.434/.659 slash line and Midwest League-leading 20 homers.

Not only that, scouts point out Jackson's contact rate has increased significantly this season, and he can hit to all fields. He is still developing as a catcher and will need some additional time to continue polishing his skills, but he has experience as a corner outfielder as well.

Should Jackson end up winning the Golden Spikes award, he would share that honor with current Brewers first baseman Andrew Vaughn and franchise legend Rickie Weeks. MLB Pipeline has him ranked as the 39th-ranked prospect among draft candidates this year, but he has been shooting up the boards throughout the spring. If he's available when the Brewers make their first selection with the 25th pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, Jackson should be strongly considered.
