On Wednesday afternoon, in front of a sellout crowd at American Family Field, the Milwaukee Brewers' rookie sensation, Jacob Misiorowski, not only tossed another five shutout innings en route to a Brewers win, but he also out-pitched the 2024 NL Rookie of the Year and All-Star Game starting pitcher, Paul Skenes. It was a matchup that signified the arrival of a new wave of pitching, one that is filled with record-breaking velocity and un-hittable secondary offerings. In the end, Miz collected his handshakes in the dugout with a career-high eight strikeouts under his belt and a Brewers fanbase that simply cannot wait for their 23-year-old flamethrower to take the mound once again.
While the eye-test alone is enough to see that Misiorowski is going to be something special — despite the eye-test being made more difficult by Miz's virtually invisible 102 mph fastballs — a closer look at his delivery offers an even more exciting prediction of what the 6'7" right-hander could become.
Rob Friedman aka "Pitching Ninja" offers eerie comparison of Jacob Misiorowski to Jacob deGrom
There's only a handful of starting pitchers in the history of MLB that would warrant even the consideration of being compared to a 2x Cy Young Award winner after just three starts at the major league level. That kind of comparison would generally lead to folks telling you to "pump the brakes" or "ease off the gas" or some other driving-related idiom. But when it comes to Jacob Misiorowski, no one is batting an eye at a comparison to one of the game's best pitchers of the last decade, Jacob deGrom. Such a comparison was made last night by the famed X account "Pitching Ninja" run by baseball analyst Rob Friedman.

From the set-up to the leg kick to the high-velocity pitch on the outside corner, the similarities between Misiorowski and deGrom are impossible to ignore. Some fans might turn to deGrom's injury history as a reason to be wary of their young star replicating his delivery, but the 4x All-Star's major injuries didn't appear until 2021 — deGrom's age 33 season. Meanwhile, Miz is still just 23 years old, three years younger than deGrom was when he made his debut in 2014.
And for those who argued that deGrom would never be effective again, after essentially missing three and a half years due to injury, just look at what the now-37-year-old did last night against the Baltimore Orioles. Pitching in his 16th game of the 2025 season, deGrom took a no-hit bid into the eighth inning before earning his eighth win of the season and lowering his ERA to 2.08, which is good for fourth best in all of MLB among qualified pitchers.
There are a million reasons to be excited about Jacob Misiorowski, who former Brewers pitcher and MLB Network analyst Dan Plesac called "the MOST talented starting pitcher the Brew Crew system has ever had or developed" on X, and an identical delivery to one of the game's best is just another reason for Brewers fans to continue tuning in to The Miz Show.
