10 remaining big additions Brewers could target in final hours of 2024 Trade Deadline

Deadline Day is finally here! At 5 PM CT, MLB's 2024 Trade Deadline will pass and no more trades from the 40 man roster will be allowed through the remainder of the season. This is the Brewers last chance to make meaningful additions for the playoff run.

While there have been a number of trades in recent days, including a pair by the Brewers, bringing in Nick Mears from the Rockies and Frankie Montas from the Reds, there are sure to be plenty of trades to come in these final hours. The Brewers themselves may not yet be done.

Mears helped solidify the bullpen, but the recent loss of Trevor Megill to the IL puts adding another reliever back on the table. Montas provides starting pitching help, but he has a 5.01 ERA and there could still be room for improvement in that group. Plus, the Brewers are looking for a left handed bat and haven't brought one in yet.

With a lot of action left to happen and some needs still to address, here are 10 names for Brewers fans to watch in these final hours before the Trade Deadline.

Brandon Lowe, INF/OF, Tampa Bay Rays

The Brewers want a left handed bat and Brandon Lowe is arguably the best one on the market. The Rays are selling everything not tied down and there's a good chance that Lowe goes today. Lowe is hitting .262/.355/.524 with 12 homers and a 149 OPS+.

Lowe has a club option for 2025 at $10.5MM and 2026 at $11.5MM, so there could be some long term control here. Adding his bat to the lineup would be a huge boost. He can play second base and corner outfield.

Luis Rengifo, INF, Los Angeles Angels

The Angels are listening on Luis Rengifo, who has a year and a half of team control remaining. He could present a big improvement over Andruw Monasterio as the Crew's utility infielder.

This season, Rengifo is hitting .300 with 23 stolen bases and a .769 OPS. Rengifo is a switch hitter and has been better as a righty but still is very good as a left handed hitter.

Lucas Erceg, Oakland A's - Traded to Royals

The former Brewers prospect has made a name for himself in the Oakland bullpen. He's drawing significant interest and has several years of team control left. Erceg has a 3.68 ERA this year and could help fill the gap with so many injuries in the Brewers bullpen.

Milwaukee has a lot of bullpen options, but with Trevor Megill going on the shelf for an unknown period of time, perhaps adding another arm wouldn't be the worst idea.

Update: Erceg has been traded to the Kansas City Royals

Jack Flaherty, Detroit Tigers

Jack Flaherty was scratched from his start on Monday night because the Tigers were expecting to trade him. A trade did not materialize on Monday but it's likely one will happen on Tuesday. Perhaps teams balked after the Astros paid a high price for Yusei Kikuchi and will try to take it down to the wire, hoping the price falls at the last minute.

Flaherty has a 2.95 ERA this year and is the top rental starting pitcher on the market. The Brewers have the capital to acquire him if they want to.

Cal Quantrill, Colorado Rockies

An under the radar starting pitching option the Brewers could instead pivot to is Cal Quantrill. He's had a solid season in Colorado and the Brewers have already made one trade with the Rockies. Quantrill has a year and a half of team control remaining.

Michael Conforto, OF, San Francisco Giants

The Giants are selling. Late on Monday night, Jorge Soler got shipped to the Atlanta Braves, and Conforto could be the next to go. A left handed bat, Conforto would be the closest thing to a replacement for Christian Yelich the Brewers could find on the trade market.

Conforto isn't having his best season, but he has 10 homers, a .710 OPS, and a 104 OPS+. He's due the remainder of his $18MM salary this year (approximately $6MM) and is a free agent at season's end, so he's a pure rental bat that can provide left handed power.

Joc Pederson, DH, Arizona Diamondbacks

A left handed platoon bat, Joc Pederson brings plenty of pop and postseason experience. He helped crush the Brewers 2021 postseason hopes with the Braves and perhaps the Brewers can look to bring him on their side this time around.

Pederson is hitting .277 with 15 homers this season with a 154 OPS+. He'd be an ideal three-hole hitter against righties with Yelich on the IL.

Nestor Cortes, RHP, New York Yankees

The Yankees are putting Nestor Cortes on the trade market with a year and a half of team control to go. He hasn't had a great season, pitching to a 4.13 ERA in 22 starts, but he's been healthy all year, he doesn't walk many, and perhaps he could improve upon joining Milwaukee's staff.

Trevor Rogers, LHP, Miami Marlins - Traded to Orioles

Trevor Rogers is a controllable young starter that's been pitching better of late and could present a solid improvement to the Brewers rotation. They just faced him last weekend in Milwaukee when the Marlins were in town and got a good look at him.

Rogers has been healthy all year, making 21 starts with a 4.53 ERA. The 26 year old keeps the ball on the ground and gets great extension down the mound. The Brewers can work with the ingredients he has.

Update: Rogers has been traded to the Baltimore Orioles

Tyler Anderson, LHP, Angels

Another starting pitcher that could present an additional upgrade beyond Frankie Montas, Tyler Anderson has a year and a half of team control at a pretty modest salary. He's been pretty darn good this season with a 2.96 ERA in 21 starts.

He doesn't get a ton of strikeouts, but Anderson is a master at avoiding hard contact and he has a nasty changeup.
