Brewers 2024 minor league players of the year include breakout undrafted prospect
The Brewers announced the winners of their Robin Yount performance awards
On Thursday, the Milwaukee Brewers announced the winners of the Robin Yount award, given annually to the best performing minor league pitcher and position player in the Brewers farm system that year. In 2024, the Brewers had no shortage of options to choose from.
The Brewers announced co-winners for both the position player award and the pitcher award, meaning four total Brewers prospects were honored.
Cooper Pratt, Jesus Made win Brewers Co-Minor League Player of the Year
A pair of shortstops in their first full year in the Brewers organization won the Robin Yount Performance Award this year. Cooper Pratt, a sixth round pick in 2023, established himself quickly as a top talent in the organization, starting in Low-A Carolina. Pratt earned promotions to High-A Wisconsin in the second half and then to Double-A Biloxi to help them in their playoff series.
Across those three levels, Pratt hit .277/.362/.406 with 15 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, and 27 stolen bases. He had an on-base streak that lasted 35 games in Carolina and has even jumped into some Top 100 prospects lists. Pratt's pure hitting ability, growing power at the plate, speed, and excellent defense at a premium position make him an especially important prospect to watch.
Jesus Made also earned recognition with a dominant season in the Dominican Summer League. It's not often you see players in short-season rookie ball earn an award like this but Made has put himself squarely in everyone's radar. In 51 games, Made hit .331/.458/.554 with nine doubles, six triples, six homers, and 28 stolen bases. He drew 39 walks and struck out just 28 times.
Baseball America recently wrote that Made has the ingredients to be a number one overall prospect, not just a top prospect in the organization, but in all of baseball. It's reminiscent of Jackson Chourio after his first season in the DSL and Made looks to be on the fast track.
Craig Yoho, KC Hunt win Brewers Co-Minor League Pitcher of the Year
Another pair of co-winners are some fast moving pitchers the Brewers brought in to the organization in 2023. Both quickly reached the upper levels of the minors with Yoho reaching Triple-A this year while Hunt jumped to Double-A.
Yoho was the Brewers 8th round pick last year, a senior sign out of Indiana. He dominated the competition, quickly proving too good for High-A, pitching to a 0.44 ERA in 20.1 IP out of the Timber Rattlers bullpen. He was named a Midwest League All Star this season despite having not pitched in that league since May 28th. He was that dominant.
The domination continued in Double-A and Triple-A. Across all levels, Yoho pitched to a 0.94 ERA in 48 appearances with 57.1 IP and 101 strikeouts to just 23 walks. Yoho's stuff has been dominant, especially his changeup, and he could earn a big league bullpen spot very quickly.
KC Hunt is one of the surprise, breakout pitchers in the Brewers system this year. He was an undrafted free agent out of Mississippi State the Brewers signed last year. He didn't put up good numbers for the Bulldogs, thus his poor draft stock, but Milwaukee has clearly helped him make adjustments and thrive.
Hunt started the year in the Low-A Carolina bullpen, then was quickly promoted to High-A Wisconsin. There, he began to transition to the starting rotation and it was seamless. Hunt made eight starts in his 11 outings for Wisconsin with a 2.15 ERA and earned another promotion to Double-A. In his final six starts for the Shuckers, Hunt had a 2.20 ERA with 39 Ks to just 9 BBs in 32.2 IP.
On the season, Hunt had a 2.03 ERA in 102 IP with 139 strikeouts and 25 walks.
It's a surprise considering how the Brewers acquired Hunt, but he's turned himself into a potential depth rotation option in 2025. Yoho signed for just $10,000 in the Draft and is looking to be a legitimate bullpen weapon in the very near future.
There's a lot to celebrate in the Brewers farm system and the Brewers just couldn't choose one pitcher and one position player for these awards, so they decided to honor two.
