Under the radar Brewers trade deadline target #2: White Sox 3B Jake Burger

Jake Burger has a name befitting of the hot corner at American Family Field. He not only plays 3B but is also a right-handed power-hitting bat. While metrically Burger does not grade very well defensively at third base, the Brewers have been known for being defensive whisperers and could help improve Burger's defense steadily, while knowing the bat is the reason to get him.

Burger is in the first year of Pre-Arb and is not a free agent until after the 2028 season. That reason alone would require some level of expenditure either in prospect capital or big league roster players going to the White Sox.

Burger in 2023 is batting a measly .214 this year but his .504 SLG % would put him 8th in the AL. Burger has pop, and his 21 home runs would lead the Brewers by four, with Adames at 17 total on the season and his 47 RBIs would be 3rd. The kicker, Burger only has 276 at-bats. While the power stats are nice, his bat does figure well in a Brewers lineup, as he can also play 1B and DH of course.

The White Sox are a disappointment and have a need to acquire talent anywhere they can get in their farm system, ranked 27th out of a possible 30th. Right now, with the White Sox looking to sell, a need will be there for filling in the pitching that leaves, so an SP in Janson Junk could be an interesting addition to a package of two other prospects.

I don't think the White Sox would deny looking to move Burger, as Moncada is close to returning off the IL and talks have already started on where Burger plays going forward. The Brewers need to add power to the lineup with Rowdy Tellez underperforming, and adding Burger is a heck of a way of doing so.

My trade suggestion:

Brewers send prospects SS Daniel Guilarte, INF Robert Moore and SP Janson Junk to the White Sox for Jake Burger.
