Brewers starter Wade Miley earned his 100th career victory on Tuesday night, a huge milestone for him. What other Brewers are approaching statistical milestones this season?
Every year, a new season brings new opportunities for players to reach new career milestones, whether the milestone is their first time doing something, their 100th time, or their 1,000th time. In baseball, we love round numbers.
Here are a couple big milestones Brewers players could reach in 2023.
Potential 2023 Milestone #1: Christian Yelich - 1,500 career hits
As things stand through 6 games to begin 2023, Christian Yelich has five hits, bringing his career total to 1,357, meaning he needs 143 more hits this season to reach 1,500. A season with 148 total hits is absolutely within range for Yelich.
Last year Yelich had 145 hits in a still somewhat down season. If he has an even slightly better season in 2023, Yelich will hit this career milestone. We'll likely see it sometime in September. When he gets there, he'll be halfway to 3,000 and a guaranteed induction into the Hall of Fame.
The now 31 year old Yelich will have to pick up the pace if he's going to reach that total, as he's obviously slowed down the last couple of years offensively. Still, 1,500 career hits is a huge accomplishment.
Potential 2023 Milestones #2 and #3: Willy Adames and Luke Voit - 100 career home runs
Willy Adames and Luke Voit are both closing in on the century mark for home runs. After a career high power output last season, Adames sits at 94 homers entering 2023, needing just six more to reach 100.
Luke Voit has put up three seasons in his career with 20 or more homers. While he's starting out in a part time role with the Brewers this year, he comes into 2023 with 95 career homers, needing just five more to reach triple digits. Even in a part time role, that's doable for the slugging Voit.
Potential 2023 Milestones #4 and #5: Rowdy Tellez and Jesse Winker - 100 career home runs
The reason these two players are separated from Adames and Voit in their pursuit of 100 career homers is because they're a little further away. Both Rowdy Tellez and Jesse Winker are sitting on 80 home runs in their career.
It's also entirely possible they both reach 100 in 2023. Tellez slugged 35 homers last season and will likely hit the century mark around midseason. Jesse Winker has hit 20 or more homers in a season just once in his career, slugging 24 long balls for the Reds in 2019. Winker could very well reach that mark again back in the NL Central, but will likely come late in the regular season.
