Brewers Announce Flurry Of Roster Moves, Tellez To IL, Brosseau DFAed
Eight different players were included among the transactions on Wednesday
The Milwaukee Brewers were active today announcing a flurry of roster moves. Here is a breakdown of each move.
1. Brian Anderson Reinstated from Paternity List
Firstly, on July 3rd, Brian Anderson was placed on the paternity list. To fill in, Jahmai Jones was signed as a temporary replacement. Anderson has since returned to the team, but it seems Jones will continue to stay for the time being. This season, Anderson has recorded a batting average of .227, with nine home runs and a .318 on-base percentage.
2. Rowdy Tellez Placed On 10-Day IL
Rowdy Tellez has been struggling at the plate with no home runs since May 22nd and a .410 OPS in that same stretch. The injury is very minor but if anything maybe it will give Tellez a mental break and help him get back on track.
3. Mike Brosseau Designated For Assignment
Mike Brosseau has also had a difficult season. Despite a strong start in spring training, his performance has been underwhelming. Following a demotion to Triple-A, Brosseau had a slash line of .188/.232/.375 in 18 games. The Brewers have decided to part ways with him, indicating that they have seen enough of his struggles.
4. Thomas Pannone Released
After one rough appearance out of the bullpen Thomas Pannone was designated for assignment and has now been released, this means the Brewers are back to having just one southpaw in their bullpen.
5. Tyson Miller and JC Meija Selected From Triple-A
Tyson Miller and JC Mejia have been called up. Miller has been moving back and forth between Triple-A and the major leagues this season, with a 5.19 ERA in six appearances. Mejia, on the other hand, has been chosen from Triple-A for the first time this season, taking the 40 man roster spot of Brosseau. Mejia has a career ERA of 8.89 in 19 Major League appearances. It is likely that both of these relievers will be used only in low-pressure situations.
6. LHP Clayton Andrews and RHP JB Bukauskas optioned to Triple-A
To make room for the new additions to the bullpen, Clayton Andrews and JB Bukauskas have been optioned to Triple-A. Andrews had a tough time with the Brewers, allowing six earned runs in just 1.2 innings. Bukauskas, on the other hand, posted a decent 3.00 ERA in three appearances. The decision to send them down was likely made in order to provide the bullpen with a fresh set of arms in Mejia and Miller.
Overall, the Brewers' recent roster moves appear to be solid decisions. Let's hope that this shake-up before the All-Star break will have a positive impact on the team's performance.
