Brewers face another pitching injury as hard throwing reliever goes down

The Brewers got some more unfortunate pitching news on Friday morning in the form of Triple-A Nashville's Abner Uribe. He was placed on Nashville's seven day injured list retroactive to June 5th. He is set to have another MRI on Tuesday.

Uribe is just 23 years old and has already spent time in the majors. He showed a ton of potential at the end of 2023 and into the start of this season. Uribe was sent down to work on his command as he was struggling with walks. He was topping out north of 100 MPH in his stint with the Brewers, and even closed three games in 2024.

While in Nashville, Uribe had some really interesting numbers. He made seven appearances and boasted a 1.04 ERA, while holding a 1.15 WHIP. While the ERA looks really good, there still were some serious command issues. He walked eight batters in just 6.2 innings pitched.

The command issues were just half of the reason holding Uribe back from being recalled to Milwaukee. When he returns to the Brewers, Uribe still has to serve what was supposed to be a six game suspension for his fight with the Tampa Bay Rays prior to his demotion. That suspension has now been reduced to four games after a successful appeal, per Todd Rosiak.

Abner Uribe has plenty of potential and could play a key role for the back end of the Brewers bullpen in the near future. For now, we will wait and see the significance of this knee injury, and hope for a speedy recovery. Once healthy, the Brewers will have an interesting decision on their hands in terms of timing amid his suspension.

Uribe missed the entire 2022 season due to a meniscus tear in his left knee that required surgery, delaying the fireballer's MLB debut. This injury is to his right knee, so it's not the same one that needed surgery before, which is good news.

It's the latest in a long line of injuries for the Brewers staff, even though Uribe wasn't currently with the big league club. Also on the IL for Milwaukee among pitchers are DL Hall, Jakob Junis, JB Bukauskas, Robert Gasser, Joe Ross, Devin Williams, Brandon Woodruff, and Wade Miley.

Once the Brewers get a clearer picture on his injury, his timeline to recovery and a potential promotion back to the majors can be put back on track.
