Brewers Injury Update: RHP Adrian Houser to Triple-A for Rehab Assignment

The Milwaukee Brewers took two big injury hits with barely over a week of the 2023 regular season in the books. So it's only fair that some positive injury news finally comes there way, which is what happened yesterday.

Let's recap. The first injury blow came after only one game when starting third baseman went down late in the team's Opening Day loss to the Cubs with a hamstring. He will reportedly miss around two months.

The next one saw the return timeline for a previously known injury extended. Earlier this week, it was revealed that left-handed pitcher Aaron Ashby will now miss most of, if not all of, the 2023 season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder on Friday.

That second injury update makes the one from yesterday all the more timely as it involves another one of their young pitchers, right-hander Adrian Houser. From the sounds of it, he'll be back with the Brewers relatively soon.

The news of Houser's assignment came courtesy of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Curt Hogg yesterday. The pitcher will arrive in Nashville today.

Houser began his 2023 season on the injured list after leaving a late spring Cactus League game early with groin tightness. That is an issue that the pitcher has been dealing with since last year, when he also missed some regular season games.

Prior to that spring injury, Houser's role for 2023 had begun taking shape. With the potential of pitching out of the rotation or the bullpen going into the spring, it had been determined that he would start off this season as one of the team's relievers.

Houser will be joining a bullpen that has been extremely effective to start the season. The unit leads all MLB bullpens with a 0.93 ERA on the season and hasn't given up a run since last Sunday's 9-5 win over the Cubs.

One may wonder if Houser's services could be needed in the rotation as well. Eric Lauer is coming off of his second straight rough outing to start the season and his velocity has been down in both losses. There is no indication that the lefty is injured or anything and it's only two games, but it could be a situation to monitor.

It should only take a few rehab appearances for Houser to get ready. So look for him to return to the Brewers roster in a week or so.
