Injuries have been a story line for the 2023 Milwaukee Brewers. Unfortunately that narrative has been consistent with their Triple-A affiliate the Nashville Sounds as well as they previously had lost two highly regarded position players due to injury.

In April the Sounds lost outfield prospect Sal Frelick to a thumb injury that ended up requiring surgery. He underwent the procedure on April 25. A few weeks later they lost hot hitting Keston Hiura to a knee injury that resulted in a lengthy IL stint.

How are both Sal Frelick and Keston Hiura doing now? Thankfully both have resumed game action with one back playing with the Nashville Sounds and the other rehabbing at the Arizona Complex League.

Milwaukee Brewers players Sal Frelick and Keston Hiura have recovered from their injuries and are back in game action.

Sal Frelick is currently back with the Nashville Sounds. The organization's second ranked prospect resumed game action in the Arizona Complex League on June 9 and was activated by the Sounds on June 14.

Since returning to Nashville Sal Frelick has played in three games. He collected collected hits in each contest, including a clutch game tying hit on Friday night and a four RBI night on Saturday. He's a candidate to receive a big league promotion this at some point this year, but will need to get some more at-bats underneath his belt first.

Keston Hiura sustained his knee injury on May 12. On June 16 he was added to the Brewers Arizona Complex League Roster. He played in his first rehab assignment game that day going two for three with a double and two runs batted in.

There has been no indication as to how long Hiura will play in Arizona for, but his teammate Sal Frelick was on their active roster for just five days. If Keston Hiura follows a similar path then he may be back with the Nashville Sounds by mid next week.

Both of these players getting healthy is great news for the Milwaukee Brewers. There is some expectation that at some point this season both may receive big league promotions. In order for either of them to get promoted, a corresponding 40-man roster move would have to ensue.

Hopefully Sal Frelick and Keston Hiura can get back into the swing of things quickly and remain healthy. At their best both are tremendous baseball players with the potential to positively impact the Brewers at the big league level.
