Brewers News: Top Pitching Prospect to be Promoted to High-A Wisconsin
After being graced with a number of talented pitchers for years, the top prospects lists for the Milwaukee Brewers have been a little thin on pitching recently. Graduations, not to mention unfortunate trades, have helped lead to that.
The Brewers have slowly been adding some of that depth back, however. Arguably the most talented pitching prospect the team has working his way through the organization goes by the name of Jacob Misiorowski.
The 21-year-old Misiorowski was drafted in the 2nd round of last summer's draft out of Crowder College, the same school that produced Milwaukee big leaguer Aaron Ashby. Based on his pure stuff, many saw the pick as an early steal of the draft.
After getting a quick couple games in at High-A Carolina to start his professional career in 2022, Misiorowski found himself back there again to start the 2023 season. Well, apparently the Brewers organization saw all they needed to see from him there with the Mudcats.
Top Brewers pitching prospect Jacob Misiorowski is reportedly being promoted to the High-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
The news of Misiorowski's promotion came from Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Tuesday. Per Hogg, the Brewers prospect will likely be making his debut for the Timber Rattlers this Thursday.
It's no surprise why the Brewers were enamored enough with Misiorowski to select him that early in last year's draft. The right-hander towers over the mound at 6'7" and can touch 100 mph on his fastball. Paired with an effective slider, it was thought that Milwaukee would be fine going both the starter or high-leverage reliever route with his development.
So far, it's looking like future starter is the plan for Misiorowski, at least for now. All 11 of his career appearances in the minors have been as a starter, including nine this year. In those nine starts, which have covered 26.2 innings, he has gone 1-1 with a 3.04 ERA, a 0.825 WHIP, and 46 strikeouts to just 12 walks. His most recent appearances earned him the organization's May Minor League Pitcher of the Month honors.
MLB Pipeline is so impressed by his potential that he was rated the Brewers' top pitching prospect and No. 4 prospect overall coming into this season. They've given a 70 grade to his fastball, 55 grade to his slider, and 50 grade overall.
In a couple years, Brewers fans will have to be prepared to usher in the next wave of young Milwaukee starters. With the future that Misiorowski looks to have ahead of him, he should definitely be a part of that pack.
