When the Milwaukee Brewers signed Jackson Chourio to an eight year, $82MM contract extension last offseason, prior to his MLB debut, they were making a big bet that Chourio's prospect status would turn into production. That big bet is paying off faster than the Brewers likely even imagined.

Jackson Chourio has been on a tear at the plate ever since the beginning of June. His surge over the last few months have vaulted him near the top of the NL Rookie of the Year race and he just secured another milestone that should boost his resume.

After his home run last night against the Giants, Jackson Chourio has 20 home runs on the season. Having already secured 20 stolen bases, Chourio is the youngest player in MLB history to reach a 20-20 season at just 20 years and 185 days old. The only other players to post a 20-20 season as a 20 year old are Vada Pinson (1959) and Mike Trout (2012).

Jackson Chourio has made even more MLB history

There are eight players in the minor leagues who have secured a 20-20 season in 2024. Jackson Chourio is younger than all of them and secured his 20-20 season in the majors.

Chourio's success is a large reason why the Brewers have been able to maintain their large division lead throughout the summer, especially once Christian Yelich went down with a back injury. This is the type of performances the Brewers envisioned when they signed him to that massive contract. Remember, Chourio was a consensus top two prospect in all of baseball at the beginning of the season.

Chourio had his struggles early on this season. In April and May, he was really scuffling at the plate, losing some playing time as the Brewers opted to rotate in some other options. There was conversation by some about sending Chourio down but Milwaukee stuck with him and they've been handsomely rewarded for that.

After hitting his 20th home run, Chourio looked into the camera well for Bally Sports' Sophia Minnaert and said "I told you" in Spanish. He told Minnaert before the game that he felt this was going to be the day that he went yard for the 20th time. That confidence, that swagger that he has has aided him throughout this season and his entire career.

This kind of milestone should continue to boost Chourio's resume for the NL Rookie of the Year award. It'll be a close race with Jackson Merrill and Paul Skenes also in the running, but Chourio's surge and now record as the youngest player to go 20-20 gives him something that Merrill and Skenes cannot claim.
