Brandon Woodruff should thrive against the Cubs on Wednesday.

The Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs will play the rubber match of their three-game series on Wednesday afternoon after Chicago picked up a 1-0 win on Tuesday night.

The win for the Cubs snapped the Brewers’ nine-game winning streak, but Milwaukee still has a four-game lead in the division. Both teams are hoping to make the playoffs, and they have a pair of solid righties on the mound tonight.

Milwaukee’s Brandon Woodruff makes his fifth start since coming off the IL in this game, and he’ll take on veteran Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks.

This should be a great rubber match, and luckily for bettors, there’s a way to win regardless of what you bet in this game.

Brewers vs. Cubs prediction and pick

I actually think the best way to wager on this game is in the prop market, and I broke down this play on this week’s episode of Baseball Insiders (Betting Edition).

I love Woodruff in this game, as he has a favorable matchup to pick up a bunch of strikeouts against this Cubs team.

Since returning from the injured list, Woodruff has recorded nine, five, four and 11 strikeouts in his four starts. His best start since coming back was his last one, tossing six innings of three-hit ball while punching out 11 San Diego Padres hitters.

I wouldn’t be shocked if Woodruff can put up similar strikeout numbers in this game.

Even though it’s a small sample size, Woodruff has posted his highest strikeout percentage of his career in the 2023 season.

Not only that, but the Brewers righty has a favorable matchup since the Cubs are 19th in the league in K’s per game – coming in at 8.8 per contest.

Woodruff has worked into the sixth inning in three of his four outings since returning, so hopefully he can give similar length on Wednesday to hit this prop line.
