Brewers vs. Nationals prediction and odds for Monday, July 31 (Back Burnes in July)

Corbin Burnes probably doesn't want July to come to an end after posting a stellar ERA with four wins already this month.

A series with the Braves isn't very fun for anybody and the Milwaukee Brewers couldn’t have had a great time getting swept this weekend. Now at 57-49 the Brewers are a half game behind the Reds for the top spot in the NL Central as they head to DC for a three-game series with the Washington Nationals.

The 44-62 Nationals are coming in after dropping three of four to the Mets and are opening the series with Jake Irvin on the mound. The Brewers will counter with Corbin Burnes who is 9-6 with a 3.46 ERA in 21 starts for Milwaukee. Irvin is 3-5 with a 4.96 ERA in his 15 previous starts.

Even after getting swept the Brewers are big favorites on the road for Game 1 against the Nats.

Brewers vs. Nationals prediction and pick

Corbin Burnes hasn’t really been himself this season, but in July he seems to have figured everything out. He's made five starts this month and has only allowed six total runs, a 1.64 ERA across his 33 innings of work with 42 strikeouts to 10 walks. Though he’s gotten some luck with a staggeringly low .154 batting average on balls in play over that stretch.

Meanwhile, the Nationals have had some great production from CJ Abrams and Jeimer Candelario in the month of July, who has hit six home runs already this month.

Milwaukee’s pitching staff struggled over the weekend against Atlanta, but expect Burnes to get the series off to a strong start given his current form, back Milwaukee to win with ease.
