William Contreras has been arguably the Brewers team MVP in 2023, putting together a stellar season offensively and defensively. His consistency in the lineup is a big reason why the Brewers won the NL Central and are back in the playoffs.
Yet, somehow, when MLB was putting together a list of the Top 50 players in the 2023 postseason, they forgot to include William Contreras.
The Brewers had a number of players on the list, but Contreras wasn't one of them, drawing the perfect reaction from William Contreras himself.
With 12 teams in the postseason now, there's a lot of great players that will play in October. The Brewers have quite a few themselves. Going down the list, closer Devin Williams is the top ranked Crew member at 16th, followed by Corbin Burnes at 22, and Christian Yelich at 37. That was it, just three players.
As you read through the list, you start to wonder where William Contreras is and where he slots in. Did we scroll past it? Nope. Contreras wasn't even mentioned.
They even had a list of honorable mentions and Contreras wasn't in there. Brandon Woodruff was. Freddy Peralta was. But Contreras was not.
This drew the perfect reaction from William Contreras on Twitter.
No words need to be said. Just straight laughter from Contreras at the pure disrespect from the writers at MLB at not including him on the list.
Contreras had a better OPS and OPS+ than Christian Yelich and plays a premium position with excellent defense. Yet he's not on the list and Yelich is. Contreras had a better OPS and OPS+ than Randy Arozarena (24th), Gunnar Henderson (12th), and Marcus Semien (17th). He also had a better OPS, but not OPS+ than Adley Rutschman, another catcher, who ranked 14th.
Contreras could easily be a Top 20 player on this list, and at the very least should be on here somewhere, but instead Contreras was completely disrespected and left off the list entirely. Now he's seen it, he's laughing at it, and he's going to have a chip on his shoulder to make sure they never forget to put him on a list like this ever again. MLB just gave the Brewers' best hitter bulletin board material to go on an absolute tear this October.
Contreras is laughing now and he'll be looking to get the last laugh as well when October is all said and done.
