Brice Turang's hot start for the Milwaukee Brewers is very encouraging

It's only been a few games, but the youngster has been one of the hottest members of the Crew.

The Milwaukee Brewers started the 2024 season off with a sweep of the New York Mets and a win in the first of a two-game series with the Minnesota Twins. The Brewers have been getting production up and down the lineup as seven different players have driven in runs and five different players have stolen a base.

The Brewers' stolen base charge is led by Brice Turang, who was second on the team in the category last year with 26 and who after four games has six stolen bases already. Turang is one steal ahead of the Boston Red Sox's Jarren Duran in all of Major League Baseball for stolen bags and double the next man in the National League, CJ Abrams from the Washington Nationals.

Turang's base stealing ways in the Brewers series with the Mets found him doing things that had never been done in Milwaukee Brewers history in the opening series of a season. He is also finding much more success at the plate so far in 2024. Although the sample size is quite small, just four games, the returns are very encouraging.

Behind Brice Turang's encouraging start for the Milwaukee Brewers

Turang was omitted from the Brewers' starting lineup on Opening Day in New York, raising some eyebrows. However, when considering Mets starting pitcher Jose Quintana is left-handed, the move is understandable. Turang did get into the game later, though, and in two at bats registered one hit.

Turang started both games two and three and performed very well, delivering two hits in five at bats in game two while also stealing three bases and gathering two more hits in four at bats in game three with another stolen base and two runs scored.

After an off day on Monday, the Brewers home opener was Tuesday afternoon and Turang picked up right where he left off in New York. He showcased a cerebral approach at the plate in his first at bat, just putting the head of the bat on the ball which resulted in a single to center field. That allowed Jackson Chourio, also off to a very encouraging start to 2024, to deliver an RBI single.

In his second at bat, Turang again showed a great batting approach by taking an outside pitch right down the left field line for an opposite field double, driving in Rhys Hoskins. In his third at bat against the Twins, Turang drew a seven-pitch walk and followed up by stealing second and third base before being stranded at third.

Turang did strike out in his final at bat against the Twins, however, that was just his fourth strikeout of the season, so he has more hits on the season with seven, than strikeouts. Again, it's a small sample size of just four games, but on the young 2024 season, Brice Turang is slashing .500/.533/.643 for an OPS of 1.176!

With the increased performance many Brewers fans were hoping to see from Turang at the plate in 2024, his defense has been just as stellar as it was in 2023. Turang was a late-inning substitution in the opening day win over the Mets and made some impressive plays at second base, making Pat Murphy look like a genius.

Throughout the whole Mets series and first game against the Twins, Turang has looked just like the defensive stud we saw in 2023. Now, early on, his offense is following suit and if he can produce this way through 2024 the way he has through the first four games, he will be a huge boost for the Brewers offense and key ingredient to the Brewers perceived success.
