Milwaukee Brewers probable pitchers and starting lineups vs. Chicago Cubs, May 27
Here are the starting lineups and probable starters for Craig Counsell return to Milwaukee to face the Brewers
The Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs open a highly anticipated four game series here on Memorial Day. Cubs manager Craig Counsell makes his first visit back to Milwaukee since he joined the Cubs last November. The energy between these two rivals will be palpable.
Milwaukee opens the series with a 3.5 game lead over the Cubs in the NL Central. A Cubs sweep is the only way Chicago can be in first place at the end of this series, but that's the last thing Brewers fans are looking for. This game means more than others when it comes to emotions.
Probable starting pitchers
- The Brewers will send out rookie Robert Gasser to make his fourth career MLB start. Through his first three, the Crew's 4th ranked prospect has a 2.65 ERA in 17 IP. In his last time out, Gasser gave up 10 hits and four earned runs to the Miami Marlins but didn't allow a walk and also didn't register a strikeout. The Brewers offense has supported Gasser with 28 runs in his first three starts and Milwaukee has won each of the three games he's pitched.
- The Cubs will have Justin Steele on the mound to make his sixth start of the season. Steele, 28, has a 5.68 ERA on the season and has already allowed six home runs in 25.1 IP. While there were reports that the Cubs were going to push Shota Imanaga from Friday to Monday to make this first start of the series. But it appears he's on the schedule to pitch Wednesday. Steele's last time out, he went 6.1 IP against Atlanta, allowing six hits and five earned runs on 93 pitches.
