Milwaukee Brewers probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Cleveland Guardians, August 17
Fans of low scoring pitching clinics are in for a treat.
One of the best pitching duels of the season is upon us, and it's going to be between two Central division heavyweights. The Cleveland Guardians and Milwaukee Brewers are both in first place in their respective divisions and have been absolutely rolling as of late. The Brewers pulled off a victory led by ex-Guardian Aaron Civale and they're going to go for two in a row on a national stage tonight.
Probable starting pitchers
- For the Brewers, staff ace Freddy Peralta will take the mound for the 25th time this season. The 28-year-old hasn't quite looked like himself this year, as he enters the day with a 4.11 ERA and 4.13 FIP through 131.1 innings. His 103 ERA+ means he's only been three percent above league-average on the year, which is much lower than the 113 mark he had in 2022 and 2023, as well as the 147 he had in 2021. Last time out, he threw six innings of four-run ball against the Dodgers, striking out four and walking two.
- Opposite Peralta will be 25-year-old Tanner Bibee, who's set to make his 24th start of the year. The former fifth-round pick has been money this season for the Guardians, emerging as an ace in the absence of Shane Bieber. Bibee is 10-4 with a 3.39 ERA, 3.40 FIP and 122 ERA+ ahead of Saturday night's matchup. In his last start against the Twins, he went 5.2 innings, allowing one run on six hits with five strikeouts and no walks.
