Following a 5-3 victory on Wednesday night, the Brewers are ready to go for an afternoon matchup against the fourth-place Giants. As the Giants begin to fade in the NL West, the Brewers continue to roll atop the Central, as they enter the day with a comfortable (but not too comfortable!) nine-game lead over the Cubs.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Aaron Civale will take the mound to make his ninth start as a Brewer. He was one of the club's only deadline additions and he's gone at least six innings in two of his last three outings. Civale has a 4.35 ERA and 98 ERA+ since joining Milwaukee, and his full-season numbers come in the form of a 4.84 ERA and 85 ERA+ in 128.1 innings of work. The Crew is going to need more out of him down the stretch, as they can't afford to have any starters crumble as the postseason nears.
  • The Giants are sending rookie Hayden Birdsong to the mound to make his 11th start of the year. He's boasting a K/9 rate over 10.5 and has quietly been putting together some strong outings as of late. In his last two starts, the 6-foot-4 right-hander has thrown 8.2 innings while allowing one earned run with 10 strikeouts.
