The door has been left open in the NL Central for the Milwaukee Brewers. The Pirates continue to lose, but the Brewers have not been able to take the lead in the division and still trail by a half game heading into Friday night. The 20-17 Brewers get a three-game series against the 12-27 Royals which should springboard them ahead of the lifeless Pirates.
For Game 1 of this series, the Royals will send Josh Taylor to the mound for his second career start. He has made nine appearances this year all out of the bullpen and this will likely be a bullpen game for KC. The Brewers will have Corbin Burnes on the mound for the eighth time this season. Burnes is 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA.
Let’s take a look at the odds for Game 1 of this interleague series.
Royals vs. Brewers odds, run line and total
Royals vs. Brewers prediction and pick
The Brewers have the Royals for three at home while the Pirates are in Baltimore for three against the Orioles. If Milwaukee does not end the weekend with the division lead then this weekend was a failure. It’s lining up perfectly, but the Brewers have been struggling nearly as much as Pittsburgh has. Pittsburgh is 28th in OPS in May, but the Brewers are 25th. Milwaukee has scored 20 more runs than the Pirates, but also 34 less than the Royals this month.
No lineup is hitting better than Kansas City’s this month. They have a .903 OPS, 18 home runs and 67 runs scored. They’ve been dominant behind Salvador Perez and Vinnie Pasquantino. They actually are likely to have success against Corbin Burnes who has a 4.29 FIP and a career low strikeouts per nine innings, 7.3, this season.
The Royals are going with a bullpen game, but have the 27th best bullpen ERA, 5.11, so I’m expecting fireworks in Milwaukee tonight. Over 8.5 is my favorite bet of any game tonight.
