As the seas settle from the storm that was the 2024 Trade Deadline, we're now seeing traded players start to make an impact on their new clubs.

Erick Fedde was an oft-rumored target of the Milwaukee Brewers at this year's July 30th Trade Deadline. Bob Nightengale even reported that Fedde was the Brewers first choice for rotation help before they had to pivot to Frankie Montas, who is Friday night's starter for Milwaukee.

Fedde ended up getting traded to the Crew's NL Central rivals, the St. Louis Cardinals. He also made his first start on Friday in a day game against the Cubs. How did that start go? Not very well for Fedde and the Cardinals

The Brewers were aided in their push to hold off the rival Cardinals in the NL Central race by their other rivals, the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs lit up Erick Fedde on Friday afternoon.

Fedde's final line: Five innings, six hits, five earned runs, four strikeouts, and two home runs allowed.

The Cardinals lost 6-3 on Friday and Fedde took the loss on his record.

Chicago did all their damage on Fedde in the second inning of the game. Pete Crow-Armstrong got the scoring started with an RBI single, then Christian Bethancourt hit a three run homer, and Michael Busch finished off the inning with a solo home run of his own.

Heading into the Brewers Friday night game against the Nationals, Milwaukee holds a six game lead over the Cardinals and Pirates. The Pirates have tied St. Louis for second place in the division. Even with the Brewers struggling of late, neither of these two other contenders have taken advantage and shrunk the Crew's division lead any.

The Cardinals thought bringing in Fedde would help them close that gap. At least through his first start here, that's proving to be wrong. Perhaps that will change over the next two months, but it wasn't a great first impression for Fedde with his new club.

We'll be able to draw a pretty quick comparison too between Fedde and Montas since Montas is also starting on Friday. The Brewers will be hoping for Montas' debut with his new club to go much better than Fedde's debut for his.

The Cubs have actually done the Brewers a couple of favors here the last few days, beating the Cardinals. They've given up on the season, but it doesn't mean they can't still have an impact.
