Top Brewers shortstop prospect earns promotion to High-A Wisconsin

Meanwhile, some other members of the same draft class are jumping up as well.

The 2023 Milwaukee Brewers draft was pretty widely considered to be one of the stronger ones in the league. And when you already have members of that class earning promotions, it becomes hard to argue with that point.

Another one of those big promotions came on Monday. The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, the High-A affiliate of the Brewers, had the pleasure of announcing that shortstop Cooper Pratt would be making the jump up to the team.

Pratt, 19, was a 6th round pick of the Brewers just this last summer out of Magnolia Heights HS in Mississippi. Even after being signed well over slot for his draft position, MLB Pipeline named him one of their top value picks in the entire draft, with one expert even listing him as the "steal of the draft."

Pratt got a small cup of coffee with the team's Arizona League team last year after being drafted before starting this season with the Low-A Carolina Mudcats. And even coming straight out of high school, he has held up well against a higher level of competition.

In 73 games, Pratt has an impressive slash line of .295/.394/.395 (.789) with 17 extra base hits (11 doubles, three triples, and three homers) and 25 stolen bases in 27 attempts. He also has a pretty solid strikeout rate for his age of 18.3%.

This is just the latest accolade for Pratt in 2024. This summer he was the only Brewers prospect named to the MLB Futures Game and now MLB Pipeline not only has him ranked as the No. 4 Milwaukee prospect but also is currently their No. 93 prospect in all of baseball.

Pratt wasn't the only member of the 2023 draft class to earn a promotion on Monday. Pitcher Tate Kuehner, a 7th round pick, is jumping from Wisconsin to Double-A Biloxi while third baseman Eric Bitonti (3rd round) and pitcher Josh Adamczewski (15th) are heading from the ACL to Carolina.

The future looks awfully bright for the young Pratt, not to mention the other crop of players who earned promotions. Just another few reasons why the Brewers' farm system is considered one of the best in the league.
