The heart of the Brewers lineup will be representing Milwaukee during the 2024 MLB All Star Game. The starters for both leagues have been announced after two rounds of fan voting and for the first time since 2014, the Brewers will have multiple position players in the starting lineup.

Christian Yelich and William Contreras were both voted in as starters for the National League. Yelich received 21 percent of the vote while Contreras received 60 percent of the vote over the injured J.T. Realmuto.

This is the second career All Star starting lineup nod for Yelich as a Brewer and the third All Star selection of his career. For Contreras, it's his second All Star selection and second starting nod, but his first as a catcher. When he was voted as a starter in 2022 with the Braves, he was the designated hitter.

Brewers' Yelich and Contreras deserving of All Star starting nods

Contreras and Yelich make up the 2-3 spots in the Brewers lineup on a typical day and they've been a big part of this team's offensive resurgence in 2024.

Contreras is hitting .292/.353/.445 with 20 doubles, 10 homers, and a 124 OPS+ on the season. He got off to a blistering start in the first two months, putting his name squarely in the MVP conversation, but he fell off a little bit in June. Still, even with those struggles, his numbers are impressive and quite deserving of the starting nod.

Yelich got off to a roaring start in the first few weeks this year before a familiar back injury sidelined him for a few weeks. Since returning, even though the power hasn't been as big, Yelich has been incredible. On the year, Yelich is hitting .329/.403/.500 with eight homers, 19 stolen bases, and a 154 OPS+. He was the top vote-getter in the NL outfield. Yelich will be joined by a pair of Padres in Jurickson Profar and Fernando Tatis Jr.

The Brewers are sitting in first place in large part because of the contributions of these two players. They are incredibly deserving of this honor. Yelich was the last Brewers player voted into the starting lineup in the All Star Game, earning the nod in 2019. Prior to that, the Brewers had three players in the starting lineup in 2014 with Jonathan Lucroy, Aramis Ramirez, and Carlos Gomez.

The 2024 MLB All Star Game will be played at Globe Life Field, the home of the Texas Rangers, on July 16th and we'll see both Yelich and Contreras there, with potentially more.

The rest of the All Star rosters, the reserves and pitching staffs, will be announced on Sunday night.
