The Milwaukee Brewers have a knack for finding talent, especially when it comes to minor league transactions. Whether it be drafting a player in the latter rounds of the MLB Draft, who then turns into a top prospect in the organization, or trading for a player who's hit a wall in another team's farm system, only for them to break out with the Brewers, Milwaukee's front office does an excellent job of scouring the market for overlooked talent.
This skill came into use when the Brewers signed non-drafted free agent Jarrette Bonet following the 2025 MLB Draft. Bonet, a right-handed pitcher, attended San Jacinto College, a JuCo in Houston, Texas, before signing with the Brewers last July.
When the Brewers signed him, Bonet was coming off a showing in the MLB Draft League in which he posted a 6.08 ERA in 13.1 innings pitched. However, in that span, Bonet flashed impressive strikeout potential, racking up 19 punchouts. The main concern for the then-19-year-old right-hander was a lack of command -- Bonet issued 11 walks in that small sample size.
However, since joining the Milwaukee's minor league system, the 6'3" Bonet has seemingly put it all together, and his impressive performance through the first month of the 2026 season earned him the Brewers' Minor League Pitcher of the Month Award for the month of April.

Right-hander Jarrette Bonet posts impressive month of April with Low-A Wilson Warbirds
Despite being just 20 years old at the beginning of the 2026 season and having limited collegiate experience, Bonet was assigned to Low-A, to kick off the campaign with the Low-A Wilson Warbirds. He made his professional debut against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, the Houston Astros Low-A affiliate, on April 5 and collected five strikeouts in just two innings of work despite allowing one earned run.
What followed was a stellar first month of pro ball for Bonet. He ended up tossing 23.1 innings in April, while posting a 3.09 ERA and compiling an impressive 26 strikeouts. His month included a five-inning scoreless outing against the Salem RidgeYaks, the Boston Red Sox' Low-A affiliate, in which he struck out five batters and a six-inning scoreless appearance against the same opponent at the end of April, in which Bonet allowed just two hits and one walk.

While Bonet's first outing in the month of May wasn't quite as sharp -- 4.1 IP, 5 ER, 3 HR, 4 BB, 4 K -- he remains an intriguing name to watch as the season continues after emerging seemingly out of nowhere. There wasn't much, if any, coverage of Bonet's signing last July, and just eight months later he's been named the Brewers' first Minor League Pitcher of the Month during the 2026 season. From non-drafted free agent to a name prospect evaluators will now watch closely, it was quite the introduction to affiliated ball for Bonet.
