What the 2026 Brewers must do to be deemed the best team in franchise history

As the Milwaukee Brewers continue to stockpile victories at a ludicrous rate, it's important to put into context just how good this year's team is.

In 2025, the Crew set their all-time record with 97 wins, posting the best record in baseball en route to the No. 1 seed in the National League. This time around, they need to go just 14-13 down the stretch to compile 98 wins, which seems rather attainable for the team with the best record once again.

But that's not all! Win 16 more games, and the 2026 Brewers will become the first team in franchise history to hit triple digits in that category. That would require a 59.3% win percentage the rest of the way; for reference, they're sitting at 62.2% right now.

All of this naturally begs the question: Are we watching the best team in Brewers history right now?

2026 Brewers will set records, but their legacy will be determined by their postseason success

Let's not pretend like anyone but the 1982 team was the best one in franchise history. They're the only group to reach the World Series, coming agonizingly close to winning Game 7 against the St. Louis Cardinals (they led 3-1 going into the bottom of the sixth inning).

That squad also went 95-67-1, setting the regular season standard until the 2011 team won 96 games. It certainly feels like the 2026 iteration has to at least make it back to the Fall Classic to surpass the '82 squad and be under consideration for the title of the "best team in franchise history." Win it, of course, and then everyone else will be vying for second place.

Regardless of how the postseason shakes out, though, let's try to appreciate how good this year's group has been. Here are some other fun pieces of history this year's Brewers team is soon to be a part of:

1. The Brewers, who already set their franchise record with three consecutive 90-win seasons a year ago, will presumably extend that streak to four in a matter of time. The only other time they put together multiple 90-win seasons in a row was 1978-79.

2. Once the Brewers clinch their playoff spot -- their magic number is creeping closer to single-digit territory -- it will mark their fourth consecutive season making the postseason. That ties their record from 2018-21, though that streak includes the 2020 pandemic season when they went 29-31 and barely snuck into the modified bracket.

3. If the Brewers exceed the 100-win barrier this year, they'll become the 24th active franchise to do so. Six other clubs -- the Blue Jays, Expos/Nationals, Marlins, Padres, Rangers, and Rockies -- have never accomplished the feat.

4. If the Brewers do win the World Series, they'll snap a 57-year championship drought, which started at their inception in 1969. Of the four other teams who haven't won a title, only the Padres (1969) have been around as long.
