Two months into the 2026 season, Jacob Misiorowski has firmly established himself not only as the ace of the Milwaukee Brewers' staff, but also as one of the most dominant pitchers in all of baseball. The electric right-hander is currently in the middle of a stretch unlike anything the sport has seen before, becoming the first pitcher in MLB history to record six consecutive starts with at least eight strikeouts while allowing no extra-base hits.

A major part of his dominance has been his ability to overpower hitters with triple-digit velocity and maintain it late into games. On Memorial Day, during an outing in which he tossed seven scoreless innings and struck out 12 St. Louis Cardinals, his fifth double-digit strikeout performance of the season, Misiorowski unleashed 57 pitches at 100 MPH or harder. That total shattered the previous MLB high, held by Hunter Greene of the Cincinnati Reds, by 10 pitches and also eclipsed Misiorowski’s own previous career-best mark of 43, which he had set earlier this month.

Overall, through 11 starts this season, Misiorowski has entered territory previously occupied only by Jacob DeGrom at the peak of his dominance in 2021. Misiorowski joined him as the only other pitcher since 1901 to record at least 100 strikeouts through the first 11 starts of a season while allowing fewer than 50 total bases, as reported by OptaSTATS on the social media platform X.

All of this has led Misiorowski at or near the very top of several major National League pitching categories, further validating the growing belief that he isn't just a legitimate Cy Young contender this year, but may currently be the frontrunner.

Jacob Misiorowski's dominant start to the season has him squarely in the early Cy Young conversation

As things currently stand, Misiorowski ranks among the National League leaders in nearly every major pitching category among qualified starters. He currently leads the league in strikeouts with 100, strikeout per nine innings pitched at 13.89, and batting average against at just .152, while also ranking second in both WHIP (0.83) and ERA (1.83). In addition, his 64.0 innings pitched rank sixth in the National League and his 2.2 fWAR is the second best in the National League.

If the Cy Young Award were handed out on Memorial Day -- the unofficial one-third mark of the MLB season -- it would be a tight race between Miz and Christopher Sanchez of the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League. Sanchez, who ironically was one of the players who turned down the All-Star Game last year before Miz was added to the roster, is sporting a 1.62 ERA and has 86 strikeouts to his name.

Right now, Misiorowski is putting together one of the most dominant starts to a season by a Brewers starting pitcher in recent memory. Between the overwhelming strikeout totals, his ability to completely suppress extra-base hits, and the way he continues to overpower hitters with triple-digit velocity deep into outings, Misiorowski has become must-watch television every time he takes the mound for the Brew Crew.
