In addition to Martin Maldonado, who was suspended five games, Carlos Gomez was handed a three-game suspension for his role in a bench-clearing brawl with Pittsburgh Pirates’ pitcher Gerrit Cole, Major League Baseball announced Tuesday.

Travis Snider (two games) and Russell Martin (one game) were also suspended. All of the culprits were fined as well. Gomez has already said he plans to appeal his suspension.

It’s pretty interesting Cole wasn’t suspended, considering he initiated the confrontation by walking about to Gomez and cursing. If not for Cole’s action, we wouldn’t be talking about any of this.
