The first domino has fallen as the Milwaukee Brewers traded Aramis Ramirez to Pittsburgh, back where his career started. With just over eight days left, Brewers’ beat writer Tom Haudricourt is reporting that this move is just the beginning of a big overhaul that could be ahead.

While I do not believe that a player like Kyle Lohse will be traded, the Brewers have plenty of intriguing candidates that I expect to be dealt before the July 31st trading deadline. CBS Sports Jon Heyman wrote a list at the start of the month that showed the top 40 trade candidates and Brewers filled the list.
A lot of players that have been viewed as tradeable pieces have really increased their value in these past few weeks. With five outfielders able to contribute at this point and rumors swirling everywhere, I fully expect that Gerardo Parra‘s days are numbered in Milwaukee and a sizable return could come their way. If the right deal were to come along, Carlos Gomez, Neal Cotts and even Jean Segura could also be moved.
The Ramirez trade was a great sign for Milwaukee. While in other years, the Brewers have battled to play .500 ball and compete, the deal is a signal they are looking toward building the championship level ball club in the future. Yes they didn’t get eye popping return, but they did get an arm in Yhonathan Barrios that throws hard and could be a piece in the bullpen for the future.
After having their second consecutive positive draft and players continue to exceed expectations in the minors, being a competitive team may not be as far away as many think. By finishing the month with several other big moves, the Brewers future can continue to get brighter.
