The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 3 of the NLCS last night in large part due to a memorable 11-pitch at-bat from Jake Bauers that ended in a two-run, go-ahead homer off two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell. However, innings before Bauers quieted the crowd at Dodger Stadium, 22-year-old phenom Jackson Chourio set the tone with a leadoff homer against the dominant southpaw.
Chourio jumped on the first pitch of Game 3 -- a center-cut fastball that Snell wasn't expecting the Brewers' leadoff hitter to attack. However, the aggressive Chourio ambushed the poorly-located fastball and made Snell pay. The homer, which left Chourio's bat at 106.1 mph and traveled 391 feet, was the second one the young outfielder has crushed in the postseason this year and the sixth he's slugged throughout his first three playoff runs. Just one game after William Contreras tied Chourio for the most postseason homers in franchise history, Chourio retook the record by crushing a leadoff homer on Wednesday night.
In addition to Chourio's Game 3 homer once again giving him the Brewers' record and adding to his franchise record postseason RBI total, the leadoff laser etched Milwaukee's budding superstar's name among a list of playoff legends in the MLB record books. Here are three stats that stand out from Chourio's tone-setting homer last night.
3 incredible stats from Jackson Chourio's leadoff homer in Brewers' Game 3 win
1. Chourio's Game 3 homer gave him the most postseason RBI before turning 23 in MLB history
In the midst of the NLDS, we noted that Chourio was closing in on Andruw Jones' record for the most postseason RBI by a player aged 22 or younger. Jones, an Atlanta Braves legend, tallied 17 RBI in 45 postseason games before his 23rd birthday. Chourio, after racking up six RBI during the NLDS, had matched Jones' total by the time the NLCS began despite playing in just 16 total postseason games to that point.
The budding superstar didn't collect an RBI in either of the Brewers' first two games against the Dodgers in this year's NLCS, but with a leadoff homer in Game 3, Chourio officially snatched the record from Jones. With 18 RBI, and at least four more postseason games before his 23rd birthday, Chourio is looking to add to his record-breaking total. The fact that he's accomplished this feat in just 19 total playoff games is truly remarkable.
2. Chourio is already tied for the second-most leadoff homers in postseason history
Chourio already has a leadoff homer in each of the three postseason runs he's been a part of in his young MLB career. Back in 2024, his rookie season, Chourio led off the bottom of the first inning of Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Series against the New York Mets with an opposite-field homer off Sean Manaea. Last year, in Game 2 of the NLCS, Chourio led off the bottom of the first with another opposite-field home run, this time off eventual World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Now, Chourio can add the talented Snell to the list of starting pitchers he's hit a leadoff homer against in the postseason. Unbelievably, those three leadoff homers have Chourio tied for the second-most in postseason history, trailing only Kyle Schwarber, who has five. Three other players have racked up three leadoff homers in the postseason in their careers: Shohei Ohtani, Jimmy Rollins, and Derek Jeter. That's pretty good company for the 22-year-old Chourio to already be sharing.
3. Chourio is one of just two players with two first-pitch leadoff homers in the postseason
Chourio's homer off Snell last night didn't just come in the first at-bat of the game; it came on the first pitch that the Dodgers' southpaw threw. Aside from being a rattling way to start the game, Chourio's ambush of Snell's first-pitch fastball also made history. According to MLB.com's excellent statistician Sarah Langs, Chourio is one of just two players to have two leadoff homers on the first pitch of the game in the postseason.

As noted by Langs above, Chourio's homer last night was just the 17th first-pitch leadoff home run in postseason history. One of those other 16 was Chourio's leadoff homer against Yamamoto in last year's NLCS which came on the first pitch that the Dodgers' right-hander threw. George Springer of the Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays is the only other player to have two such homers in the postseason.
Chourio continues to impress in October. While he's sporting just a .200 batting average in the postseason this year, his seven RBI and two homers indicate that Chourio is making the most of the hits he has collected in the playoffs this year. His homer last night undoubtedly set the tone in what ended up being a thrilling victory for the Brewers, who are now just one win away from the World Series. At just 22 years old Chourio has already established himself as one of the great postseason performers in franchise history.
