Since American Family Field, formerly Miller Park, opened in 2001, the Milwaukee Brewers have had 61 All-Star nominations including more than 35 different players. Some of those former fan favorites will be in attendance for the team’s celebration of 25 seasons, which is set to take place on Friday, July 25.
Before that, Major League Baseball will have its All-Star festivities, which include the inaugural All-Star game. Here, we take a look at five former Brewers, over the last 25 seasons, that you may have forgotten were All-Stars with Milwaukee.
Former All-Stars with the Milwaukee Brewers that you may have forgotten
1. LHP Chris Capuano - 2006
In December of 2003, Chris Capuano became a member of the Brewers in a blockbuster deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the same trade that netted Milwaukee Craig Counsell. He spent six of his 12 MLB seasons with the Brew Crew, accumulating a 4.33 ERA with the team. His efforts in 2006 earned him All-Star honors, as during the first half of the season, in 19 starts, he had a 3.21 ERA and two complete-game shutouts.
2. RHP Francisco Cordero - 2007
Closer Francisco Cordero spent just a season and a half with the Brewers, but during his one and only full season with the team, 2007, he was an All-Star. That year he racked up 44 total saves while striking out 86 batters over 63.1 innings pitched. Following those efforts, he signed a four-year, $46 million contract with the Cincinnati Reds, which to date is still the largest deal handed out to a reliever in their franchise's history.
3. SS Jean Segura - 2013
Across 12 MLB seasons, Jean Segura was a two-time MLB All-Star, with one coming as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2013 and the other in 2018 with the Seattle Mariners. In 2013, he was rocking a .325 batting average heading into the All-Star break while also collecting 27 stolen bases.
4. RHP Corey Knebel - 2017
In 2017, reliever Cory Knebel established himself as the team's closer early on in the season. Milwaukee was not expected to be a playoff-caliber team that year, but Knebel did everything he possibly could to help out that year's squad. Knebel appeared in a league-high 76 games that year, recorded 39 saves, and was the Brewers' lone All-Star selection.
5. C Omar Narváez - 2021
After a disappointing shortened 2020 season, Omar Narvaez's first with the Brewers, he responded in a big way in 2021 and was a late addition to the All-Star roster. That year, Narvaez had a remarkable turnaround as a defensive and pitch framing catcher, but his bat also played as he was supporting a .300/.396/.469 slash line before the All-Star break.
In the lead-up to MLB's All-Star festivities, it's the perfect time to reflect on some of the surprising names who once represented the Brewers on one of baseball’s biggest stages. These five former Brewers may not be the first names that come to mind, but each earned their place, and it is worth remembering their efforts.
