The Milwaukee Brewers find themselves in a deep hole in the NLCS after dropping the first two games at home to the Los Angeles Dodgers. With the next three games, if needed, set to take place on the road, a comeback appears unlikely. However, if they are going to define the odds, there is one key player that needs to provide the spark the offense desperately needs.

A Milwaukee Brewers' comeback in the NLCS starts with Christian Yelich

Throughout the regular season, Christian Yelich was a consistent presence in the heart of the lineup for Pat Murphy. With the likes of Sal Frelick, Jackson Chourio, and Brice Turang getting on base in front of him, Yelich went on to have his most productive year since 2019, as he finished a home run shy of 30, collected 103 RBI, and had a .304 batting average with runners in scoring position.

This postseason, however, has been a tough one for Yelich, as he's gone 0-for his last 17 at-bats and overall is just 5-for-26 with a .192/.300/.231 slash line. He has yet to come through with a hit with runners in scoring position, going 0-for-2, though he did manage to draw one walk in such a situation on Monday night. Overall, it's been a disappointing October for a player who was so impactful during the regular season.

This isn't to suggest that Yelich deserves all the blame for the Brewers' offensive struggles in the NLCS, after all, the team has just four plate appearances with runners in scoring position through the first 18 innings of the series. Still, with Milwaukee having dropped both road games in the NLDS, a spark from a veteran leader like Yelich may be exactly what's needed to fuel a comeback.

If the Brewers are going to turn this series around, it will require Yelich finding his swing. As the only position player on the roster with deep postseason experience, his bat has the potential not only to produce runs but to energize the entire lineup. A breakout performance could be the catalyst that gets the Brewers going and allow them to climb back into the series.
