In case you missed it, Milwaukee Brewers' reliever Abner Uribe performed a rather controversial celebration during last night's win over the St. Louis Cardinals that has caught the baseball world by storm. Uribe, known for his string of celebrations after he completes a clean inning, directed last night's disrespectful gesture at the Cardinals' dugout, and at the time, few knew why.

There's always a baseline level of tension between the two NL Central rivals who have a history that extends back to 1982 when they met in the World Series before becoming division rivals, but it seemed there was more at play for Uribe last night. Pat Murphy speculated as much during his postgame interview while condemning his closer's actions and stating that he himself was embarrassed by Uribe's actions.

Brewers fans were left confused for the final inning of the game, and simply thankful that the Cardinals' pitchers didn't throw at Milwaukee's hitters in the top of the ninth inning after Uribe's antics. However, after the game, it became clear that there was more going on behind the scenes for Uribe. The flame-thrower's postgame interview not only included an apology, but also a rather shocking accusation against the Cardinals' coaching staff.

Abner Uribe apologizes for disrespectful celebration before accusing Cardinals of signaling to throw at Brewers hitters

As seen on Brewers.TV following last night's game, Uribe gave a long-winded apology relayed to members of the media by translator Daniel de Mondesert. The Brewers' closer made sure to apologize to his teammates, manager, and the organization as a whole, but what followed was a very serious accusation against the Cardinals and specifically manager Oli Marmol.

Uribe noted that the Cardinals manager was signaling from the dugout for his pitchers to hit Brewers' hitters, specifically William Contreras and Christian Yelich. Uribe also mentioned that there was an incident during the pregame session prior to Tuesday night's game, but wouldn't elaborate on what exactly transpired.

It's a serious allegation to make. If Marmol actually was signaling for his pitchers to throw at Milwaukee's veteran leaders, Uribe's antics become much more justified. Murphy would certainly prefer that Uribe let his pitching do the talking, but at least there was a reason behind his change in celebratory routine.

That said, if Marmol wasn't relaying signs to his pitchers, which he would most certainly deny even if he were, it's fair to assume the Cardinals' manager won't be too happy about Uribe's accusations. Whether or not that leads to retaliation remains to be seen, but you can bet it's going to be a chippy series finale between the two rivals this afternoon.
