The 2025 Milwaukee Brewers and 1987 "Team Streak" squads may have more than one thing in common, pending the outcome of ace Freddy Peralta's next start.
The 1987 season, marked by dramatic streaks like a 13-game winning run, a 12-game skid, Paul Molitor’s iconic 39-game hit streak, and Teddy Higuera’s 32 consecutive scoreless innings, may now have even more in common with this year’s Brewers team. After a 14-game win streak earlier in the season, Peralta is currently riding a 29-inning scoreless stretch, putting him just three innings shy of matching Higuera’s club record.
Milwaukee Brewers ace Freddy Peralta is closing in on Teddy Higurea's franchise record
Nearly four decades ago, Teddy Higuera kicked off his streak of 32 consecutive scoreless innings with a 10-inning complete game shutout. Ironically, that dominant outing came on the same day Molitor’s 39-game hitting streak came to an end. Higuera followed it up with back-to-back nine-inning shutouts before the streak was snapped in the fifth inning of his fourth start during the run.
On the other hand, Peralta has already made five starts, all of which have, of course, been scoreless outings. Over this 29-inning stretch, he has allowed just nine hits and struck out 35 batters. The streak, which began on August 12 against Pittsburgh, helped him win NL Pitcher of the Month honors.
During Peralta’s impressive scoreless streak, there have been a few tense moments. In his most recent start against the likely playoff-bound Phillies, he allowed the first two batters of the fourth inning to reach base and eventually found himself with the bases loaded. But as he’s done throughout this run, Peralta locked in, and this time escaped the jam by striking out all three batters to end the inning unscathed.
Though Peralta has been limited to 5–6 innings per start during this stretch, which is quite normal for him due to elevated pitch counts limiting how deep he can go into games, it’s still a remarkable feat. He’s now just the 12th starting pitcher since 1901 to record five straight scoreless outings of at least five innings each, according to Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
With five more shutout innings today, Freddy Peralta has tossed 29 straight scoreless. He's the 12th pitcher since 1901 to have at least five straight starts of 5+ innings and no runs.

Peralta's next projected opportunity to extend the scoreless innings and outings streaks will come next week in Texas, where he will face a Rangers team that is in contention for a Wild Card spot in the American League.
