The Milwaukee Brewers didn't face a National League Central opponent for the first four weeks of the 2026 season. Then, after a three-game set against the Pittsburgh Pirates in late April, the Brewers went another week before facing their second division rival of the 2026 campaign.

After three games in the nation's capital over the weekend, the Brewers traveled to St. Louis for their first series of the season against the Cardinals. Without an off-day in between their series against the Washington Nationals and their Monday series opener in St. Louis, the Brewers dropped a frustrating loss at Busch Stadium on Monday night in which they went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position and left 12 runners on base.

Hoping for a quick bounce-back in game two of the series, the Brewers were scheduled to kick off their second matchup of the 2026 season with the Cardinals at 6:45 p.m. CT tonight. However, as announced by the teams just moments ago, tonight's game has been postponed due to rain in the St. Louis area.

Brewers and Cardinals' Tuesday night tilt postponed due to rain, teams to play doubleheader on July 7

The Brewers and Cardinals have elected to reschedule tonight's game to July 7, when the NL Central rivals will square off in a doubleheader. That series, which will take place from July 6 through July 8, was already a four-gamer, meaning the Brewers and Cardinals will now play a rare five-game series in St. Louis in early July.

Oddly enough, almost the exact same thing happened between the Brewers and Cubs last year. An early-season game was postponed, and rather than play it the next day, the teams rescheduled it to be a doubleheader during a four-game series in August. That rescheduling caused the Brewers to play 19 games in 18 days in late August, which preceded a string of late-season pitching injuries for the Crew.

Tonight's rescheduling means that the Brewers will play 18 games in 17 days leading up to this year's All-Star Break. The Cardinals will play 14 games in 13 days leading up to the midseason break, making the decision to reschedule to a doubleheader on July 7 even more perplexing.

Presumably, Brandon Sproat, who was set to pitch for the Brewers tonight, will now throw tomorrow afternoon's game, but manager Pat Murphy has yet to make the announcement official. The positive is that Jacob Misiorowski, who left his last start with a hamstring cramp, now gets an extra two days before his next start, due to the Brewers' off-day on Thursday. Though also not confirmed, it's likely Miz will start Friday night's series opener against the New York Yankees at American Family Field.
